  1. The Redneck Right love to vilify Minto, and have often decried him as a no-good professional protester who needs to get a real job. Liars.

I gather he has worked for many years as a teacher in a Decile 1 school in South Auckland, and gained recognition as being good at it.

That is far more than most of the rednecks could ever hope to achieve.

Beware the nasty Right Wing propaganda that will come – keep the ratbags honest.

  2. Christchurch uses first-past-the-post so if the right put up a halfway credible candidate they could win. Still, perhaps John Minto believes the Ralph Nader line – ‘the lesser of two evils is still evil’. Otherwise it’s a rare pic of good news for National in Canterbury.

  3. Well the De’il’s awa’ wi’ Dalziel (inevitable, really) so someone with integrity and good ideas would be a huge step forward for that battered city.

Someone who both listens and acts…

  4. I’ve heard that Gary Moore is going to run Dalziel’s campaign, that is interesting given he doesn’t believe in selling the city’s assets except Red Buses.

  5. If Christchurch doesnt want Him please can we have Him as the Mayor of Aucklkand

    1. Yeah – Napier needs him too. It’s moments like these (forevermore) we need Minto for Prime Minister.

  6. A nice endorsement thank you Donna. He’s always had my ‘vote’ – ever since 1981. He has consistently demonstrated courage and integrity approaching all issues of social and environmental justice ever since. I wish I was in the Christchurch electorate.

  7. Minto will never win so it wont matter, He is a school teacher so has possibly educated people in respect of spelling, so you have something it common with him Frank, good on you.

      1. No. I fall on my sword and say that I am feeling smug and confident that someone who I do not like much will not win. There is a need for good strong mayor in Christchurch by the look of it (Just look at the Cathedral debacle, but I really think the job needs someone with a bit of diplomacy. I bet you $10 to a charity of your choice that I am right.
