  1. You have given an accurate description of the failure of our current government and the racism in their actions. Since they worship wealth and a false god this is the inevitable result, it seems like an eternity ago that NZ could support their government for its humanitarian actions but the propaganda control that wealth provides has developed the ignorant attitude amongst many where they ignore the human rights of others. Since you are a Christian you will know that the only solution is for people to be born again with Christ to live a new life although that’s not a popular idea as the self help attitude is all through society.

  2. Thank you, Katrina, for your powerful and courageous words. Your piece shines a necessary light on the hypocrisy and selective application of human rights principles.
It’s deeply disturbing to witness dehumanizing rhetoric from those entrusted with protecting all communities equally.

You’ve eloquently expressed what many feel that justice must be for everyone, not just a select few.
Silence in the face of racism and bigotry is indeed a betrayal of basic values.

Your voice is vital, and I stand with you in calling for accountability, equity, and genuine inclusivity in all institutions.

Thank you for speaking truth to power.

  3. The true test of NZ’s humanity, like the true test of humanity, period, is in whether we will realize, in time, that captured government is thee threat to humanity and not one group of people or type of person. The capture of government by finance and big money interests, spearheaded bu the US govt is our single greatest problem. It is the actions of captured government that is underpinning the genocide in Palestine and it is the silence of captured governments that allows this wholesale killing, to not only roll along but to spread to neighboring lands. Meanwhile, the world goes about its business, but here’s the problem with this. If governments can allow genocide to take place in Palestine with minimal push back from its citizens, then what can any one of these governments do to its own citizens, in service to the big moneyed interests that are driving the genocide in Palestine and or in service to the US govt, the unofficial leader of governance throughout the world.

Will we make the connection that what is taking place in Palestine can befall anyone of us, any country in the world, and not necessarily in the same manner befalling Palestine, at that…it is the fact that governments allow genocide to take place – in relative silence – means that these same dynamics can befall anyone, anywhere. Hence why the problem is captured government. Will we wake up to this or will we continue to focus upon anyone or anything else, but this. From my experience to date, we all just Palestinians in waiting….

  4. The questions that most Western, ex colonial, and Arab zionist countries mesirably failed in: Are we a sovereign nation? Do we have values and really care about humanity? And most important, do we represent our people and work on addressing their needs?
If the answer is No to any or all of the above, then these governments shouldn’t be in power since they are incompetent and destructive.

  5. Thank you for this, Katrina. Shocking rhetoric and comments from Rainbow and very troubling when you dig deeper to his underlying ideology. How can someone who holds these views be allowed in such a prominent position supposedly standing for humanity in Aotearoa? No one is free until we are all free.

  6. Excellent article Katrina. I am disgusted to read the comments published by the Israel Institute NZ. I think Rainbow and his anti-Muslim rhetoric and racist underlying ideology is very dangerous in his current position. Free Palestine.

  8. This is a very thorough and well written article.
With the hypocrisy we are seeing from governments around the world, your article rightly highlights this is a test for our government – does it truly uphold human rights for all, or only for some.
The deafening silence from our government is absolutely shameful!!
