  1. A good, well balanced article. Thanks!

It’s worth noting that there is a massive statistical anomaly in Hollywood whereby several of the more radical stars have produced an enormous number of trans kids. Now why would that be? I’ll leave you to figure that out yourselves;-)

  2. With the advent of the pill in the 60s hip people experimented with communal free love living. Ultimately most of those experimenters coupled with a mortgage and kids.

It was a kind of a young persons political fad response to a new pharmaceutical option.

Transing politics looks like the the same kind of fad response except it causes actual physical harm to vulnerable kids.

    1. Do you know any trends people? Have you even spoken to any trends people? I have several acquaintances, and believe me it is not a fashion/fad or anything like that.

  3. This is a very thoughtful post and the lack of comment, I suspect, means that people are considering it carefully. It is well-balanced and worth more than one read.

  4. If doctors have a do no harm policy why are they so silent regarding a food and drinks industry that is intent on having people consume products that only make people sicker when they consume more?
If an industry sold products that damage whatever transport solution you favor they would be locked up yet under the misguided idea that people have free choice it is somehow considered worthy to allow the advertising and sale of products that are destroying people’s health and lifespan is reduced.

    1. Many doctors are actively campaigning against this industry specifically in respect of sugar and argue for a sugar tax among other things.

  5. Bravo Ian for this article! I hope you come to understand that 90% of accusations of transphobia are against commentators saying equally compassionate, thoughtful things as you do here. The haste with which people accuse others of ‘sickening bigotry’ and worse has led to a climate where sound, open, evidence-based conversations about medical safeguarding, women’s rights and gay rights have been unable to happen. Kids, women, gay people and public debate are suffering from the wave of anti-science biology denialism that has gripped NZ institutions.
