    1. Yes, and Cave Creek before it. Same causes, same result – needless dead.

  1. You are right, Grenfell was no accident. But not the sort that follows from ‘wrong’ decisions, or ‘mistakes’. It was deliberate and planned.

All of the factors that made Grenfell a ‘perfect storm’ were the predictable outcome of capitalist austerity at home, and abroad imperialist invasions and occupations of oppressed peoples over the past 30 years.

ALL governments that actively followed neo-liberal policies to make the working class and other oppressed people pay for the crisis of falling profits, are equally to blame, as is the main enemy of the people, the capitalist ruling class that that owns and controls the banks and businesses including most of the media, and ultimately parliament.

These facts are becoming very clear to those who are paying the price for neo-liberal policies imposed on them for decades with their livelihoods and the lives, and the protests that have followed show that their anger and outrage will create a wave of popular resistance which has the potential to bring down the governments of the 1% and put power into the hands of the working people.

For workers to live, capitalism must die!

  2. It sickens me to see those images, as we all know that the poor folks never stood a chance to escape, since the thick toxic plastic burning would have cocked them instantly, so why did the council sanction using such toxic building materials.

    Bloody murders.

  3. A heartfelt piece Christine
The remaining tower is a Pyre to Poverty
    Everyone is running for cover.
councils are elected to represent the people who elected them, this Council failed. They devolved their responsibility to someone else.

  4. “Deregulation reduced building and fire safety rules and standards, and allowed highly flammable cladding to cloak a building largely inaccessible to fire fighters, despite the product being banned because of realised fire risk elsewhere around the world. Apparently post-Brexit plans are to reduce ‘red tape’ and building regulation even further. And while the rich can afford to buy their fire security, their safety, and their legal representation to pursue justice, the poor are dead.”

Yes and NO, there are other facts that now come to light, it was a crime, by a refurbishing builder using materials in a way and on a building they were NOT allowed to use it:

    http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2017/06/london-apartment-fire-cladding-maker-warned-against-using-panels.html

“Construction company Rydon Group, which undertook the work, and the local authority which owns Grenfell Tower declined to confirm whether the panels were PE.

Arconic did not respond to requests for comment.

Rydon had earlier said the revamp “met all required building control, fire regulation and health and safety standards”.

Other diagrams in the Reynobond brochure show that panels with a fire retardant core – the FR model, according to Arconic’s website – can be used for buildings of up to 30 metres tall. Above that height, it says, panels with a non-combustible core – the A2 model – should be used.

Grenfell Tower is over 60 metres tall.”

There was a product used that was not even legal to use on such high buildings in the UK:
    https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5310e887e4b059649e4d6ee5/t/534ee2f6e4b066e96f6d6897/1397678838973/Reynobond+Brochure.pdf

There are two types of that composite, one with PE inside, which is not recommended on high buildings, while a fire resistant composite would have been ok, it seems.

So the building regulations appear to have been breached.

    NOW also this:
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/grenfell-tower-flammable-cladding-banned-in-uk-philip-hammond-germany-us-a7795696.html

So while there are of course issues with the privatisation, the lack of regulations and so forth, in this case, it is a matter that is a CRIME, where builders used short cuts, or rather materials they were not allowed to use, to save costs, and question is, did the ones in charge, the owners of the tower, know this also?!

  5. As long as the general populace insists on electing psychotic sociopaths into power and allows psychotic sociopaths to infest government bureaucracies such incidents will continue to be the norm.

Indeed, as the loot-and-pollute system and the transfer wealth upwards system established throughout the world by the European nations goes into decline we must expect ever-greater numbers of ordinary folk to be sacrificed, in order that those at the top of the economic pyramid can continue to live richly at other people’s expense.

  6. F…ing amazing how Authorities world wide allow the use of these Building Materials does anyone remember the Leaky Building Crisis here in New Zealand ?

We used to have some of the best training facilities and the some of the best tradesmen in the world until the The National Government dissolved the Apprenticeship Schemes under the New Neo Liberal Agenda ?

  7. Killed by “colourful” cladding

    http://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/world/director-of-company-responsible-for-grenfell-tower-refurbishment-admits-he-is-clueless-over-what-cladding-was-made-from/ar-BBCFJyh?ocid=spartanntp

At this early stage many fear the colourful plastic cladding, which was recently placed on the building as part of a major refurbishment, could have helped spread of the flames.

Andrew Goldman, director of Rydon, told Good Morning Britain: “We don’t know there is any direct link between the fire and cladding.”
“There are various different types of cladding and I don’t know the exact specifications..

  8. While most only looked with horror at the incident in London, something is near us to worry about, right here in Auckland’s CBD, also in places frequented by thousands of ignorant common pedestrians and visitors every week, if not every day:
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201848215/building-allowed-to-stay-open-despite-likely-death-in-event-of-fire

    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/201848375/auckland-building-given-wof-despite-fire-safety-risks

Who cares, it is only some risk, happy go lucky JAFAS are too busy shopping, eating, drinking and being merry, no worries, mate.
