  1. Sounds like Stanford and co would be down with “strapping” the maori language out of our schools again.

This is such a racist anti-education croc of shit. Everyone knows it’s easier for a 5 year old to pick up a second language than a 13 year old.

In Europe what age do school children start learning a second or third language?

    https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_12_990

In France kids learn second languages in pre-school.

  2. Joseph, kids learning second languages in preschool is not the same as learning Māori words in English text. Just because I understand words like café and menu doesn’t mean I speak French. If this country bothered to have compulsory Māori at school (which to its shame it never has), Erica Stanford would not be an issue. Consequently we are arguing about chucking Māori into English text as if that was somehow useful.

  3. Maori in a English text in NZ is a no brainer.
Instead of saying we are going to the Marae to see some Kapa Haka, we will have to say we are going to the building on the natives land to some of their war dancing.
    What a crock of shit.

  4. French you say…

“The Ecole Francaise Internationale Auckland would enrol primary and secondary school students and offer an Agency for French Education Abroad-accredited education.”

Well, you are helping to pay (a lot more than usual for primary education) for some kiddies to become bilingual in year one at a Charter School.

A Charter School which will be exempt from the OIA.

Anyone else notice the hypocrisy of our Education Minister?

  5. Te reo is phonics but words like “foreigner ” are not, stupid, lying-ass Erica.

    1. Absolutely right O’Toole and let us look at names we use everyday.
      Your own O’Toole (Celtic). Steven (Greek) Basil(Greek) Mark(Greek) David(Hebrew) Gerald(Norman French) Martyn(Celtic from Latin).
But evidently we cannot be Rawiri, Matini or Tipene.
Actually Maori is pure bred whereas English is a mongrel.
