  1. Eru Kapa Kingi is an ideologue he believes he Jesus to the Maori movement and venerates his tupuna who were responsible for selling out Maori like Hongi Hika who protected missionaries at the cost of his own people so he could access to European technologies like metal & Muskets. The guy should of Kanohi ki te Kanohi the Maori way not go to the MSM that notorious for demonizing Maori

    1. Stephen L you see things clearly, in a blinding light it seems – the prism moves in the light and another look shows a slightly different scene. Or you are looking at a kaleidoscope but have stuck down the pieces. For the sake of true appreciation you need to not just jump straight to total negative, downplaying important features that show in a softer light.

  3. The Māori world exists largely independently of the understanding and experience of most Pākehā and Manuhiri. Pākehā wonder–how do they get 10,000 people to turn up to an event and cater for them all? Well it is because of capacity building and a Māori economy that middle NZ and all the racists choose to ignore.

This current situation is an extension of an age old battle within the Māori politicised movement, Māori Nationalists vs Māori with at least a glimmer, or more, of class left understanding and commitment to a broader unity in action with non Māori.

Are non Māori the main enemy? or the capitalist class as per the reality of the working class? This struggle appears and dies down and reappears, in the 80s there were two slogans expressing this–“Honour the Treaty” and “The Treaty is a Fraud”. Though with the demographic of younger articulate Māori now being in the majority a new phase is obviously upon us.

Debbie knows the reality of the colonial Parliament but sees a lot useful in it for her Party and people. Whether Doc is a loose cannon or there is a whole underlying factional move inside TPM as maybe indicated by Doc’s MP mum Mariameno being demoted from Whip, we shall see. Most parties conduct their struggles behind closed doors–TPM have gone the public route!

      1. Error: Mariameno’s son is obviously NOT Doc, but Hikoi leader Eru Kapa-Kingi, my mistake.

    1. The “Maori economy” is built on money and assets to them by taxpayers, and then taxed at a lower rate if at all.

      1. I don’t think you can make forthright statements like that kcco. It’s not helpful starting on money and assets eg land – politics is more than that. And if you can’t say anything positive don’t look round for negative things from under the carpet.

Growing demands by tribal bodies has sparked a furious debate on the internet.

Interesting game of force back they got going on there.

  5. So not all Maori think the same and hold a range of opinions like any other group?
    Who would have thought?

  6. Greens and TPM are both involved with power struggles and policy division. They both have some interesting ideas for running the country but it is easy to have high ambition when in opposition less easy to put it into action when in power especially when you do not have an united party.
