It staggers me that as a nation we have spent more media time crucifying the Rugby Union for not publicly whipping Losi Filipo than we have demanding every MPI employee be arrested for allowing the fishing Industry to burn and pillage our fishing stock.
This isn’t an issue about health or safety, it’s politicised fear mongering to demonise state tenants and soften the public up for state house privatisation, so the joy of watching Housing NZ squirm due to their own hysteria about P over this furniture that was left for 3 days is wonderful.
It took 18months for the cops to admit they were wrong for illegally raiding Nicky Hager’s house. It took 5 years for Key to admit he was wrong for defaming Bradley Ambrose. It took the NZDF 7 years to admit their defaming of Jon Stephenson was wrong. How long do we have to admit as a country that handing civilians over to known torture units was also wrong?
It is difficult to put aside our righteous disgust at his bullying violence on that night, but that’s what we as citizens in a liberal and progressive democracy must do. We have a Judiciary who is asked to stand above the anger and make decisions on punishment that are beneficial to the wider community.
THE FIRST THING to say about “Hobson’s Pledge” is that its message will resonate with hundreds-of-thousands of Pakeha New Zealanders. The second thing is that the organisation is likely to be both well-funded and well-resourced.
