Current CTU policy is for a minimum wage of two-thirds of the average wage and for that level to be indexed in law. The law protects National Superannuation payments which are indexed so that the couple rate is at least 66% of the net average wage. There is no reason economically why the minimum wage could not be returned to that two-thirds of the average wage level.
Corporate theft of workers’ holiday pay appears to be routine according to an investigation by Unite Union that began last year.
While 2015 did see an increase in the size of the working age population this was driven principally by immigration. The number of jobs in the economy grew, but at a slower pace than the population. The unemployment rate fell, but principally driven by people giving up looking for work. That is not progress.
