…so a story on caged eggs sold as free range eggs deserves amplification and endless hand wringing by all parts of the media yet we get only crickets chirping when Matt Nippert points out that one of the global mass surveillance Nazgul gains residency here after their private company is exposed as serving our military and intelligence agencies.
It’s funny watching a bunch of people who have been forced out of their respective news organisations because of the internet reducing ad revenue starting their own online news source. We are seeing the sub contracting out of news services to other groups at arms length from the parent news organisation in a desperate attempt to stay alive and keep credibility in an age where there is nothing but contempt for corporate news.
Trump’s mis-use of the term “fake news” – to attack and dismiss as untrue, actual news stories – is a corruption of the term for his own purposes. Trump’s actions, statements, tweets, and behaviour has all received media attention – and quite rightly so. Trump is no longer a private individual and his actions and words are no longer unimportant. As the elected leader of the United States, much of what he says and does will be reported.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this but next week Breakfast TVNZ have my eyeballs, because my ears can’t stand being punished by Duncan’s ignorance any longer.

To be honest I bit my tongue at the time and waited for the giants of our media landscape to step forward and say something. Because you know, what happened was terrible and it demanded a response that had all our Journalistic best and brightest lining up to turn attention onto what occurred and to denounce it in no uncertain language.

This is the mine that the $20 billion NZ Superannuation Fund was forced to pull out of in 2012 after sustained protest about its “unethical” investment in the US-based company.
A survey of New Zealand professional journalists, published in Pacific Journalism Review, shows for the first time that women journalists are paid less than men, despite making up the bulk of the workforce. Female journalists, despite predominating in the profession, are significantly disadvantaged in terms of promotion and income.
Right now we have Breakfast TVNZ, The AM Show, The Project and Seven Sharp all of which manage to make us less compassionate, more ignorant and a lot dumber.
Unfortunately a stupid electorate is exactly what many Politicians want.
