Labour Day became a national holiday in New Zealand in 1899. It was to commemorate and celebrate the rise of worker powers and how the earliest Pakeha settlers coming to New Zealand fought to create a fair balance of power between the boss and the worker.
Those on the Right claiming we are now a communist state don’t understand the words ‘communist’, ‘state’, ‘we’, ‘now’, ‘are’ or ‘a’.
So ‘pretty legal’ as a copyright defence by National didn’t quite have the same cut through they’d had hoped for then? I’m still laughing.

The magnitude of change that this new government actually represents hasn’t sunk into the mainstream media yet. Most of them believed National would win, hence their bitter shock and they have barely caught their breath on what Labour, NZ First and the Greens truly represent. While they stumble into comprehension of actually how far this new Government intends to go, here are the 5 images that sum up the change best.
It has become obvious to me from the outset that this entire process to hold the NZ Police to account for breaching my privacy and civil rights is made to be as difficult and impossible as possible so that people complaining give up rather than hold them to account.
Let’s put aside the irony of a National Party MP daring to call the formation of the new Government a coup when his Party in power colluded with the Secret Intelligence Service to falsely smear Phil Goff months before the 2011 election. National crying abuse of power is like Harvey Weinstein lecturing on everyday sexism.
After 9 years of National, our public service has become a highly politicised and increasingly ideologically damaged entity which threatens to stop any progressive change that the new Government may want to enable.
Expect an entire array of dirty tricks and economic self sabotages to damage Labour erupting before Christmas and expect the corporate mainstream media to blame Jacinda, Winston and James every step of the way.
Will she get blamed for curdled milk and crop failure as well?
