May Day 2020 marks a critical time where humanity has to choose between keeping a dying capitalism on its feet at the expense of nature and humanity, or, rejecting this bleak future by taking over the global economy and running it under workers control.
While some people couldn’t wait to get to McDonald’s and KFC on the move to Level 3 , others have discovered the joy of things like cooking, baking and gardening. We do have choices. We can change many things in our life or we can choose to remain the same.
As most readers of this blog will already know, I’ve resigned as NZNO President. I am returning to nursing at the coal face. Since announcing my resignation four days ago, I’ve been contacted by many NZNO members who feel let down by NZNO and asked for my thoughts on their options.
Anzac Day saw Bubbles all around New Zealand stand at dawn. By the mailbox. In gardens. In lounges. Physically distant but united. Reflecting. On life. On loss. On war. On history.
Slightly bored empty nester I do miss pilates and my hair’s starting to look a bit shabby at the roots….
One of the things I hope we will do as a nation in the post pandemic economy is to focus on being more self-sufficient as a country. There are lots of things we once made – like shoes and garments which companies outsourced to places like China and Vietnam where labour was cheaper.
As we move to Level 3 on Tuesday let’s be aware that while more movement is allowed the level is labelled “restricted”
Offensively disproportionate as is NZ First’s influence on power in the Hallowed Halls, Winston has had and does have, the power to put a handbrake on economic asphyxiation which looms as a more debilitating plague, than COVID-19.
