For those who say I am being too critical of the Government’s ‘wellbeing budget’…
Tribalism aside – If you look at the fine print, the budget was NOT transformational and it makes the politics of kindness seem like a sick joke.
Critical analysis breaking down New Zealand news coverage, media framing, and political narratives behind the headlines.

I’m not nearly as clever as my woke comrades on Twitter, but wtf is ‘beltway’ about Treasury knowing they weren’t hacked but then telling everyone they were? Shouldn’t we be incandescent with rage at such a manufactured deception by one of the most powerful Government Departments?
Labour are lucky that the Treasury mishandling of the budget has become the story rather than the fine print reading of the budget because the lack of anything remotely representing transformation would have killed voters who had put their hopes into Jacinda’s politics of kindness. The truth is this budget falls far short of anything meaningful.
At some stage, the Government have to bow to your demands, and seeing as the ‘transformational budget’ was about as transformative as a lump of coal, you are the last chance progressive NZ has to show people power is the only truly transformative force in politics.
The biggest losers here are the hundreds of thousands of New Zealnder’s desperately needing hope in mental health, poverty, low income wages and housing who were cruelly let down by the hacking/leaking drama played out by politicians who care less for the issues and more for the cheap headlines.
The Nazgul of the Treasury were the feared Government High Priests who would rain down on high scathing criticism of anyone who challenged free market doctrine. Treasury were like like the Nights Watch, except they actively encouraged the Night King to effortlessly pass through the border.
Simon Bridges performance and angry storming off from the media made Brett Kavanaugh look a lot less melodramatic but this was his best performance since his leadership begun. Simon’s position as leader is safe now, he has hurt the Government badly today.
Treasury have cried wolf and it appears the ‘wolf’ was a parked car…
Why is the Auckland City Council trying to quietly sell this building for such a cheap price?
Every single time Bridges is under the high ball, he screws it up. He over compensates for his weakness by being pig headed and doesn’t see the consequences of his rashness. This isn’t the office bar at the Tauranga Prosecutors clubrooms after a big win Simon, this is defence of the bloody Realm stuff.
Someone hacked Treasury.
