  1. I don’t subscribe to this idea that blood quantum or historical links give anyone, any more or any fewer rights to a piece of land. Owning land is just a contract. up to 4 properties and you’re a residential developer, 5 or more and you’re commercial. Its different in different areas the point is there are no rules except for the ones written into a contract and if you don’t know contract law then you’ll miss stuff. get screwed and end up paying more than you should. For me, if anyone wants to rip up the treaty I will welcome the opportunity to renegotiate that.

  2. Since ‘Owning land is just a contract’ then you, Sam, will be in favour of the return of 10% of the total land area of Wellington to local iwi. The original contracts stated that one tenth of the land would be set aside for Maori living there. It wasn’t and neither was it done in Nelson where Courts have ruled on the validity of a claim for their ‘tenth’. You must also support the return of all land unjustly confiscated in the Waikato and Taranaki and all over NZ/Ao where the colonial government waged war against its own citizens who, wishing to exercise their legal rights as land owners, declined to sell their land to recent immigrants. This injustice really cannot be settled by the token payments we have so far seen under the Treaty process. Only the return of stolen land to its legal owners will serve justice.

    1. Just 10%? I’ll tell you one thing Maori won’t be negotiating and building settlements like the fucken Israelis.

      1. If you want to comment on land issues then know your history. It is called the Wellington tenths because 0ne tenth of the land inside the boundary of the Wellington purchase was meant to be retained in Maori ownership(they were cheated out of it of course) Also maori were meant, in addition to this 10%, to retain title to their customary land which i believe was the land their villages were on and land they had under cultivation.
I am not actually sure what the Israeli have to do with this issue.

        1. Yknow the Israelis say stuff like Only the return of stolen land to its legal owners will serve justice. I just don’t believe for a second that you are that far into your own bubble that you need help linking words together. I could be wrong.

  3. Some of the stuff here is deep in the weird zone.
Fact; Britain colonised Aotearoa making it New Zealand.
Fact; International Zionism colonised Palestine making it Israel.
Fact: Maori are the objects of colonisation, suffering loss of sovereignty and land.
Fact; Palestinians are the objects of colonisation suffereing loss of sovereignty and land.
Fact; After 1948 Palestinians were driven off their land at gunpoint in a process that continues to this day.
Fact; All land in Israel belongs to the state. People lease it they cannot buy it. If land is abandoned for seven years it is declared vacant.
Fact; Palestinians are forced off their land and the State of Israel leases their vacant land for settlers to build settlements on( on the basis that this land is abandoned).
There I hope that is clear now.

  4. Meanwhile, I am enjoying The Daily Blog’s analysis of Can’t Get You Out of My Head. Episode 5 (The Lordly Ones) was an especially chilling account of white guilt and nostalgia.

  5. Look, we’re part of the five eyes now..Thunderbirds are Go!! and the algorithms are written in main by the pretty fly for a white guy demographic. So. Suck it up.
