  1. A disgracefully shallow and opportunistic call by Labour’s Phil Twyford to have Destiny Church struck off the charities register.
The advancement of religion is defined as a charitable pursuit.
Destiny believes its religion is advanced by opposing behaviours that much of the rest of the society now regards as normal. Destiny reflects a world view that only 50 years ago was the majority view in society. Now it’s not.
The real question ought to be why New Zealand indulges so-called charities with tax rebates and tax exemptions.
Every tax-dollar rebated in a donation to a ‘charity’, and every dollar exempted from tax by a ‘charity’, is a dollar that must be paid by the rest of us to keep the wheels of society spinning.
Labour should be calling for the abolition of all tax rebates and tax exemptions, not trying to curry favour with voters by joining in the mass hatred being poured out on this week’s least popular ‘charity’.
