‘It’s not the 1950s’: Chris Bishop defends Nicola Willis’ Budget Day outfit amid criticism
National MP Chris Bishop has jumped on social media to show off his Budget day outfit, after a news article took aim at Finance Minister Nicola Willis’ choice of clothing on Thursday.
“There’s been a lot of interest from the New Zealand Herald as to what our minister of finance was wearing on Budget Day, but nobody has asked me”, Bishop said in the video.
The story published on Saturday quoted a fashion designer criticising Willis for wearing a dress from a British label, rather than New Zealand.
The designer said it was a move of “total disrespect” to the Kiwi fashion industry.
What an easily triggered snowflake Chris Bishop has become!
Jumping in to take offence on behalf of someone else is pure Outrage Olympics in the never ending race for the National Party to position themselves as the victim while they deliver kick after kick into the face of beneficiaries, pay equity workers, Māori, Pacifica, the Environment, renters and young people.
The irony is that while Bishop is declaring this isn’t the 1950s, his Government is paying women like it is!
Most Kiwis are sick of this Government playing the victim card to distract from the social carnage they are generating with draconian policy and failed free market mythology.

I think the- slap in the face – point is that when just ONE of your dresses ( suit or whatever ) costs more than a weekly wage for many ( or a FU to a fortnightly pension), add also your expensive shoes, and then have the temerity to tell other people how to survive , she can stick her budget up her machiavellian cake hole !
