Bill English must be getting nervous, he’s just come out and said ‘People don’t vote on personality’ in response to Labour under Jacinda…
Labour might go up in the polls after Jacinda Ardern’s rise to the leadership but in the long run people “won’t vote just on a personality”, Prime Minister Bill English says.
…the subtext to National’s spin line here is that Jacinda is just a personality, that real policy is made by grey old men like him.
Two things in response to this, the first is that sounds like the exact things the Left said about John Key when he first became leader and the second thing to say in response to Bill’s claim that ‘People don’t vote on personality’ is – John Key.
Key’s laid back anti-intellectual have a beer with me persona fitted in perfectly with NZs negative egalitarianism. Key’s personality was so laid back it was horizontal and middle Nu Zilinds desire to have a beer with him inoculated National from mass surveillance lies, dirty politics and colluding with the SIS to smear a Leader of the Opposition.
Personality not only wins elections Bill, it forgives almost every possible sin by the voter, that’s why National voters have turned a blind eye to suicide, mental health, poverty, inequality and the way beneficiaries, prisoners and the vulnerable are treated by the state.
The reason Bill doesn’t want personality to matter now is because the last time he tried to have a personality, this happened…

Tonight around 6.15 pm on John Campbell show I heard Bill English was being interviewed about the 450 texts he sent the Secretary for Todd Barclay English did not deny he sent them in fact in the interview he said he often called at 1 am as he found that was the best time to get them??????
