  1. Ben Morgan’s Pacific Update: Trump commits to AUKUS

Well no surprise there, Donald Trump is arguably the most openly hyper-imperialist American president, since Presidents James Monroe and Teddy Roosevelt

    From Googl AI

    The Monroe Doctrine (1823)
The Monroe Doctrine was a U.S. foreign policy that warned European powers against further colonization or intervention in the Western Hemisphere. The Roosevelt Corollary was an addition to the doctrine that asserted the United States’ right to intervene in the internal affairs of Latin American nations to maintain stability and prevent European interference.
Issued by President James Monroe in his 1823 annual message to Congress, the doctrine had three main principles:
Separate spheres of influence: The Americas and Europe had distinct political systems and spheres of influence.
European nations could no longer establish new colonies in the Western Hemisphere.
The United States would view any European attempt to interfere with the newly independent nations of Latin America as a hostile act but also pledged not to interfere in existing European colonies or European conflicts.
Initially, the U.S. had limited power to enforce the doctrine, and it served more as a statement of intent. Over time, it became a cornerstone of American foreign policy, used to justify U.S. actions in the region, including during the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The Monroe Doctrine Roosevelt Corollary (1904)
The Roosevelt Corollary, proclaimed by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, fundamentally changed the original, largely defensive, Monroe Doctrine. It shifted U.S. policy from passive warning to active interventionism.
Key aspects of the Corollary included:
“International Police Power”: The U.S. declared its right to exercise “international police power” in “flagrant cases of such wrongdoing or impotence” by Latin American nations.
Preventing European intervention: The primary motivation was to ensure that Latin American countries fulfilled their obligations to international creditors (such as European nations) so that European powers would not have a pretext to intervene themselves.
Justification for military force: The corollary was used to justify numerous U.S. military interventions and prolonged occupations in countries like Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
The Roosevelt Corollary, often associated with Roosevelt’s “Big Stick” diplomacy, led to increased anti-American sentiment in Latin America, as many viewed it as a form of imperialism and a violation of their sovereignty.

  2. Wonderful. So Judith Collins has signed us up to a defence agreement with a Phillipino despot, and a possible hot war with China. Yeah, that China, the one that 40% of our primary exports go to, and where the majority of our imports come from. This can’t possibly end badly right?

  3. ” Trump commits to AUKUS”
Hahahahahahabha – because LOL just doesn’t cut it here. Trump’s quite capable of committing to any number of things – for about 5 minutes. And if whatever he’s committed to seems bad for him personally, he’ll throw it under the bus without a 2nd thought. Trump told me it was raining, I wouldn’t believe him if I was soaking wet.
