Family circumstances change and we have a benefit system that is designed to stop them falling into poverty but somany of these families seem to have extra children when they are already in poverty. A big driver of climate change is the population explosion so the last thank we need is more children especially when their parents cannot support them.. I would be happy to see a payment made to those people that sign up not to have children .

  2. Trevor Sennitt, denying poor people their ability to have children is no solution to poverty. Many of us welcome children into our lives without costs being a factor, unlike those who pay for their carpets before considering whether their budget will allow them children. I am expressing clumsily my sadness at your suggestion.

    We cannot afford poverty and currently government has the resources to prevent it. I look forward to reading Elaine Rush’s paper.
