  1. All this shit from the likes of ACT that you are against economic growth if you buy takeaways or dine in at one place versus introducing another that is not wanted. Wait, don’t tell me, the drive through lane was going to have a speed limit of 100ks to boost productivity. Tossers

  2. If a McDonald’s were to be built it would surely take customers from other outlets and cause their staff to be laid off, very little if any extra employment would be provided–apart from extra street/road cleaners who would have to clean up the wrappings that accumulate around Mc Donald”s outlets.

  3. MacDonalds is safe? You ARE kidding me! The Macdonalds fare is over-processed, emulsified junk…not unlike the meals Sunshine Stealmore is serving to students. I’d support a law that MacDonalds pay for all obesity treatment costs in New Zealand. See how keen they are then. The argument that people can make a choice doesn’t impress me. MacDonalds and other fat-food sellers fill their products with addictive sugars, salts, chemical flavours and emulsifiers… Their offerings are made exactly the way they are in order to sell more.

  4. Who should decide what sort of a country and what sort of a world we live in? Property owners or people? Say “property owners” and people like Elon Musk and his mates at McDonalds become legitimated as rulers over everyone and everything.
Strike down this vile tenet of neoliberal ideology without hesitation or equivocation.

  5. I’m partial to Roger Waters description of McDonald’s. “Plastic food, for plastic people”

  6. The site was non-complying for the activity as it was under Mt Iron at the entrance to the town. It would look crass to be fair.
It will easily get consent for a more suitable site. Nothing to do with Wanaka not wanting it.

    1. You are correct . The decline was because of the site they wanted to build not a ban of McDonald’s person.
All fast food chains try to build on the best site available as location is vital to the success . They just need to chose a sight that does not detract from the scenic Vista.
