New Zealand considering recognition of Palestinian state, sets out timeline
The Government will formally weigh up New Zealand’s position on the recognition of Palestine over the next month, says Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters.
But he’s acknowledged it is “not a straightforward, clear-cut issue” and there are a “range of strongly held views within our Government, Parliament and indeed New Zealand society over the question of recognition of a Palestinian state”.
Peters on Monday took an oral item to Cabinet about the recognition of the state of Palestine ahead of a formal consideration in September.
“Some of New Zealand’s close partners have opted to recognise a Palestinian state, and some have not,” Peters said.
“Ultimately, New Zealand has an independent foreign policy, and on this issue, we intend to weigh up the issue carefully and then act according to New Zealand’s principles, values and national interest.
Let’s be honest about why NZ isn’t doing the moral thing and recognising Palestinian statehood the way the rest of our allies are.
It’s because ACT, National and NZF are in the thrall of Zionist apologist groups like the NZ Jewish Council and Israel Institute of NZ and are hellbent on finding any bullshit reason not to sign up to the Global stance on this issue because they have spent so much culture war ammunition on demonising anyone critical of Israel’s disproportionate ethnic cleansing war crime genocide as anti-semitic that they can’t bear being forced by Israel’s ongoing horror to take a stance.
NZF and ACT are the ones making it impossible for National to take a stand. The NZ Jewish Council and Israel Institute of NZ have far too much influence over this Government.
We can not stand idly by and watch genocidal war crimes by supposed ‘allies’ and pretend that’s defendable.
History is watching and they are seeing a cowardice on our part because Zionist apologists have the ear of the Government.

Well, it has been obvious something else was at play with CoC because other Five Eyes Countries have agreed to recognise Palestine. If the NZ Govt. position was all about toadying to the US it would be in contrast to the supreme US toadies like UK and Australia.
The fact is there is massive support among ordinary people world wide to feed Gaza and the suits in many Govt.s have felt the pressure–but not Seymour an arch zionist supporter, is Luxon against recognising statehood for Christian sect religious reasons? Winston Peters has repeatedly met with NZJC head Juliet Moses, who disrupted the hui following the Christchurch terror attacks with anti-Muslim ranting, and who jokes with her deranged followers about blowing up university professors with pager bombs for their support of Palestinian human rights.
Anyone in the thrall of this evil women is entirely untrustworthy.
