A fake neoliberal debate from a fake neoliberal Union must be met with real protests

Ruth Richardson still willing to debate Nicola Willis after dispute over venue

The Taxpayers Union (TPU) chair Ruth Richardson is still willing to debate Finance Minister Nicola Willis, and is suggesting Cameron Bagrie as a moderator.

Willis this week challenged her 1990s predecessor to a debate “anytime, anywhere” after the TPU launched a campaign criticising the coalition’s fiscal management.

But the pair could not agree on a venue.

Richardson demanded agreement to have the showdown on NewstalkZB next Thursday – giving a deadline to respond – but Willis refused to have other media outlets excluded.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, the TPU said Willis had “reneged” on her challenge, but Richardson was willing to still have the debate “so long as it is a substantive discussion, rather than performative theatre”.

This is a fake debate from a fake union.

Two of the biggest neoliberal architects of the largest social carnage and economic vandalism this nation has ever been through arguing over who can mutilate the state  even further is not a fucking debate.

It is the sound of one hand clapping!

The Daily Blog has been endlessly vocal on the fact that this Government are borrowing MORE than Labour ever did, the difference between Labour’s borrowing and National’s is that Labour borrowed too ward off a once in a. century pandemic, National have borrowed more for $14billion in tax cuts we couldn’t afford, $2.9billion for Landlord loopholes, $300million for tobacco subsides, $200million for gas and oil subsides and $6million for Michelin Star reviews of our food wank palaces, all the while underfunding public services.

YES we should debate National’s borrowing for corporate welfare and their donors interests but that’s not what Nicola and Ruth will be arguing about, they will be arguing on how to amputate  the state even further!

It’s a narrow Libertarian perspective and it demands a militant protest where ever it is held to show these rich pricks that their economic vandalism will not be tolerated by us the people.

Where ever this farce is held, the people must protest with a militancy that let’s them know we won’t tolerate their ideological extremism when so many are currently suffering from it.
