The Government is trying to hide a homelessness crisis of its own making instead of fixing it.
“The Government has caused an unprecedented increase in homelessness, and now they’re trying to sweep it out of sight,” Labour housing spokesperson Kieran McAnulty said.
“Shifting people out of the CBD and into neighbourhoods won’t solve anything. It just moves the problem around.
“They haven’t been upfront with New Zealanders throughout this mess. Ministers denied homelessness was increasing when everyone could see it was. Now they won’t even front up about whether they’re introducing move on powers. That’s gutless.
“The homelessness crisis is the result of this Government’s choices. Under Christopher Luxon, property speculators were given nearly $3 billion in tax breaks, while families faced rising costs and fewer housing options.
“Owning a home should be easier and renting should be secure. Labour will put affordability first –making it easier to buy, better to rent, and building the homes New Zealanders need,” Kieran McAnulty said.

This CoC isn’t just corrupt, inept and spiteful, it is cruel and deceitful. Of course those in NZ who care will be aware that our “homeless” have simply been ‘relocated’ but not to a better, sheltered, caring place, just moved ‘out of sight out of mind’. Of course this is acceptable to the heartless who couldn’t care one iota what happens to them so long as they are no longer in their face! Hard to believe NZ has ‘so called human-beings’ with that sort of attitude. So Luxon et al you are not hiding it; we all know what is going on and while many of us are more than concerned, others go on with their privileged lives. I doubt they would ever think about those in need as it is still and will always be about ME ME ME! They disgust me. So the sooner this CoC is voted out, the sooner a fairer and kinder system can be put into place, where everyone gets a share, not just the greedy “top feeders”!
