Cynics will suggest this has more to do with Trump wanting attention taken from the Epstein Files and the million documents still to be released, and while I think there is certainly some legitimacy to those assertions, I fear America’s thirst for control over Oil probably has more to do with this.
This is naked Imperialism and Colonialism Capitalism at its worst!
Stealing natural resources from indigenous people is something many cultures damaged by colonialism around the world have faced and continue to face.
I’m no defender of Madura, but the over reach here by Trump and his bizarre claim that he will now ‘run’ Venezuela using their oil revenue breaches so many International rules, it’s difficult to take his words seriously.
To date, Trump has bombed Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and now Venezuela, and Venezuela has the largest reserves of crude oil on the planet!
The message Trump is sending by illegally kidnapping Madura is that the rules based order is a joke and unfortunately for world peace, this is a message China could use with Taiwan and is a message Putin is currently trying with the Ukraine.
This action braley one week into the new year bodes ill for global peace in 2026 and forces us as Kiwis to reconsider how we are using our voice on the international stage.
This year we have the most important election in recent modern political history taking place, and it will be time to ask some deep questions.
Are we standing for peace?
Are we taking our unique bi-cultural experience and promoting those values?
Currently we are silent.

I do tend to wonder as to what security checks if any were made on the ICE Agents? Will in due course some of them be found as having criminal convictions for violence???!!
I was born in Montreal Canada and to this day I recall my parents who were Jehovah’s Witnesses telling me about the actions of one Premier in the Provence of Quebec who persecuted the JWs by the name of Maurice Duplessis. My parents said he would employ Thugs and Criminals into his OWN Police force. Duplessis was Catholic and of course Quebec is a strong Catholic area.

The loved ones of a 37 year old American woman are now grieving for her loss. And all the Shallow Minded and Self Obsessed Donald Trump has said about her is in the most derogatory of words that she was a Leftie and was a “terrorist”. How can such a Low-Life like Donald Trump live in such Insanity is incredible. I do pity his wife but she probably cannot walk away from such a person because she would well end up having to live in a Honda SUV in the middle of an American winter with severed links to her son and of course The MONEY.
What has piqued my puzzlement about Mad Don Trump is his comment about Christmas 2025 being the last Christmas. Is he intending on fulfilling his intent of destroying the entire planet and all life upon it???!!! Or is he scaremongering? Somehow I think Donald Trump will find this term as a ‘potus’ a hopefully short lived one.
Karma needs to catch up with that guy. He cannot go on and behave in such a reckless and destructive manner as he has done in this second Weird Term. Whilst he surrounds himself with Sycophants and young blonde women I think his days as a Glory Seeking Attention Mad Man is nearing an end.
