This is from an old Consumer report of 2024. While it expresses what would be a real concern it is also an example of middle class rigid superiority. The problems in society should be dealt with by someone else is the attitude, someone should be doing this better, it’s not good enough, what are we paying taxes for? The critics stand and critique and look on as managers, apart from society which should be coping at a lower level. The fact that problems existing may only be alleviated doesn’t match their expectations and demands.
I have experienced this ‘superior’ attitude in people connected with community projects. It can show up in cutting criticisms of fellow volunteers, the work and achievements. Top-down, feeling apart from common life seen as unsatisfactory for people of their type, while they ‘lord’ over all. For a more than basic lifestyle that is available to all, we need to seek out and gather in groups with clear view, good hearts, but also practical and kindly, following better approaches than ideology-driven government, and middle-class exiting from the social network.
Real citizen -partners in society will coalesce into groups of like-minded people – trustworthy and practical who live their humanity. Believing in equality as a start which means everyone having consideration and having a place in a working society. All should be carrying out some task that enhances the community according to their own individual strengths. In doing this all would interact with interest and concern for others relating to their needs, so ultimately it would be a community with most working together and managing, less crime and anomie, of which there is a lot about now.
