UN OCHA Gaza Report No. 5322 December 2025

Winter conditions have exacerbated safety risks linked to war-damaged structures and makeshift tents, leaving thousands of displaced families highly exposed to cold weather and heavy rainfall.

Between 20 and 21 December, Israeli shelling and airstrikes continued across the Gaza Strip. In the North Gaza governorate, gunfire was reported towards Jabalya refugee camp, as well as airstrikes in Beit Lahiya, east and west Jabalya and areas east of Ash Shuja’iyya and At Tuffah. Helicopter fire was reported, east of Jabalya, and two Palestinians were reportedly killed after crossing the “Yellow Line.” In Gaza City, gunfire and shelling occurred in the northeast and east, including At Tuffah, leaving one Palestinian dead and three injured, while airstrikes fire struck the Ash Shuja’iyya, Al Mashahra and At Tuffah areas, killing four Palestinians and injuring four others. In Deir al Balah, helicopter fire hit east Al Maghazi refugee camp, and small-arms fire was reported in northeast Al Bureij, with continued shelling in east Al Maghazi and east and northeast Al Bureij. Two people were also injured as fighting intensified near Musadar Mosque, where the “Yellow Line” marker reportedly shifted westward. In Khan Yunis, gunfire and shelling struck eastern, southeastern, and southern areas repeatedly, while airstrikes struck eastern Khan Yunis. In Rafah, shelling, along with airstrikes and helicopter fire, were reported in Rafah City and northern areas.

On 21 December, the Palestine Civil Defence (PCD) warned families to avoid partially damaged buildings in Gaza and reported that 22 buildings were affected by the winter storm that hit Gaza on 10 December and collapsed, resulting in the reported death of 18 people. Partners continue to focus on winterisation, including the use of flourbagsas sandbags for flood mitigation, the distribution of tents, blankets and winter clothing kits to at-risk families and sites heavily affected by recent storms. Palestinian Resistance to Occupation

From Asa Winstanley, 23 December 2025 – The true meaning of intifada, watch Electronic Intifada’s explanation of the Palestinian uprising.

On The Electronic Intifada’s livestream last week, we talked about the recent controversy in the UK over the word “intifada” and the attempt by the British Government and the pro-Israel lobby to effectively ban the word, on threat of police arrest.

We debunked the lies about this Arabic word, which simply means “uprising”. The word rose to wide global attention in 1987, when the first Palestinian uprising broke out — an almost entirely unarmed popular uprising against Israeli Occupation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Even the second intifada, in 2000, began as a mass popular uprising by the Palestinian people themselves. It was only after Palestinian protesters were killed — with Israeli soldiers shooting a million bullets at them in the first three weeks — that armed Palestinian groups began to fight back. Watch the full segment in the video above.
