Zero economic growth since National took office – Labour

The economy is smaller now than it was when National took office.

โ€œChristopher Luxon promised growth. Instead, under his watch the economy has shrunk over the last year – and it hasnโ€™t grown at all since he became Prime Minister,โ€ Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.

โ€œAfter two years of Christopher Luxon mismanaging the economy, most Kiwis are worse off. It is harder to pay the bills, groceries cost more, and seeing a doctor is more expensive than ever.

โ€œGovernments should be judged on whether families are better off. Todayโ€™s data confirms what people are already feeling: Christopher Luxon is making things worse, not better.

โ€œChristopher Luxon has no idea what life is like for most New Zealanders.

โ€œSo, when he stands up and says, โ€˜the economy is turning a corner,โ€™ letโ€™s be clear about what he really means: the economy is working for a few – not for the rest of New Zealand.

โ€œNew Zealanders cannot afford another three years of National. Labour will focus on what matters most to Kiwis: jobs, health, homes, and real action on the cost of living,โ€ Barbara Edmonds said.
