Te Pāti Māori acknowledges today’s Court decision regarding legal proceedings initiated by Mariameno Kapa-Kingi.
In her application, Kapa-Kingi sought:
- To have the Party President, John Tamihere, removed from office
- To stop the Party’s AGM scheduled for Sunday, 7 December 2025 from proceeding
- To prevent the Party’s National Council and Executive from passing further resolutions at the AGM
- To be reinstated as a member of Te Pāti Māori
The judge declined 3 out of 4 of the Kapa-Kingi’s requests.
Kapa-Kingi’s application to be reinstated as a party member until further hearing on February 4, 2026, was upheld.
“We are pleased that our President’s position has been preserved, and that our AGM will go ahead this weekend. We look forward to hosting our members on Sunday and bringing this directly to them” said co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.
“Our priority is, and has always been, our people” Ngarewa-Packer said.
“We are facing the most destructive government in our history. Individual ambition, and ego cannot be placed above the interests of our people” said co-leader Rawiri Waititi.
“To make this a one-term government kotahitanga must prevail” Waititi said.
