The Liberal Agenda – IKEA review – Briscoe’s Lady is in danger

It's bougey Freedom Furniture at Warehouse prices.

I got an opportunity yesterday to check out the new IKEA Store in Auckland and took up the opportunity to waltz around late stage capitalism global consumerism to check out the state of retail.

I was also curious to see IKEA first hand to understand the slightly glazed look that comes over IKEA devotees eyes when they describe their loyalty and love for the iconic Swedish brand.

It’s like crack cocaine lego for Adults with ADHD.

I was genuinely surprised by the meshing of domestic item using clever design into household art.

It’s styley as fuck but cheap as chips.

I think the Briscoe’s lady may need to be under self harm observation and the Warehourse red sheds burnt to the ground.

IKEA will be a serious dent in the sales of Briscoe’s, Warehouse, Farmers, Freedom Furniture etc etc etc because IKEA is far better quality household items at significantly lower prices.

It gives you an insight into how closed off the NZ market really is when you look at the prices even the Warehouse can charge for the cheapest items vs what you can get at IKEA.

Once IKEAs website and delivery process is in place, I would suspect other retailers will see a significant drop in sales and foot traffic.

What was also interesting about IKEA was the staff.

Normally retail staff hate being in the shitty store as much as you do when trying to get basic customer service.  All the IKEA staff seemed genuinely excited about working for a company with some actual mana, like old school Hobson Street Farmers or Smith and Caughy.

Retailers in Auckland this Christmas desperately need sales, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some stores go broke because of the siphoning off to IKEA.
