Groan…

Human Rights Review Tribunal hears final arguments in Lava v Wellington Pride Festival dispute

A stoush over a stall at a Wellington Pride event has left some people with hurt feelings, exposed differing opinions about gender identity and resulted in a discrimination claim.

Lesbian Action for Visibility Aotearoa (Lava) complained after the Wellington Pride Festival cancelled its stall at the Wellington Pride event in March 2021.

But Wellington Pride says it cancelled the stall because Lava is a public advocacy group promoting anti trans (trans exclusionary) views.

Now the case has ended up in the Human Rights Review Tribunal.

…yay, another delightfully radioactive and hateful Trans fight.

Charming.

The Human Rights Review Tribunal is one of the few public courts that can hold the State to account and ensure human rights are upheld, it is vital that open justice is seen to be done and that means allowing journalists to cover trials.

I went to the Human Rights Review Tribunal in my fight against the NZ Police for breaching my civil rights, it is the last guardrail of accountability.

Three things about this case:

  1. Wellington Pride get to decide who does and doesn’t appear at their festival, they didn’t like an anti-Trans group being there, so be it.
  2. It is juvenile and appalling that the Human Rights Review Tribunal has banned an anti-Trans journalist from covering the story.
  3. It is telling that the this story is being covered elusively on NZ Herald now that Alt-Right, anti-trans fruitcake and Canadian Billionaire Jim Grenon has taken over the Paper and they are dutifully chasing his favourite bigotries.

Wellington Pride wouldn’t allow Destiny Church to set up a stall, why allow feral Terfs to but the bigger story is the way NZ Herald is covering this now they have been taken over by an anti-Trans alt-right billionaire.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

    • Not often we agree Wheel, and once again you’re wrong! (you must be used to it by now?)
      Nice pun though….
Your probably wondering on what you were wrong again, everything you post!
      Just cut and paste:
“Not often we agree Wheel, and once again you’re wrong!”
Your welcome, consider this a public service to the elderly.

      • Sorry IR, you have to have a closer look at the difference between YOUR and YOU’RE.
        You’re means you are. Remember?
(You’re welcome, consider this a public service to the elderly)

  1. Always delicious for the right to see the lefty identity politics eat itself to see who’s is most woke!
Maori party break up (and it will) is just the cherry on top of the icing on the lefty stale cake.

  2. The one thing that comes through to me strongly is the readiness for people to accept that upholding womens rights and biological reality (it’s impossible to change sex )is anti trans.
Lava is not anti trans, they’re anti men in womens spaces
Helen Joyce has an anecdote , something she observed on social media.
Two gay journalists , men , discussing on social media, how they could get a child to rear.
Oh , we need some broody lesbians they said.Male lesbians won’t do in this instance, you actually need real lesbians, meaning women.Sex does matter, and all the seeming vagueness about what is a woman sharpens when discussing reproduction of the species.
Yes yes, not all women can bear children, but the vast majority can , as opposed to the totality of men who can’t.

    • Oh, anecdotes from Helen Joyce ..

I like the one where she stated ” we can’t afford (fiscally) trans people”.

Which is something the Nazis said about the poor, the disabled and the mentally ill.

Joyce is a Tory economist, not a medical or scientific specialist. Just a bigoted bean counter upholding the British class system.

Any comment on the numerous documented examples of intersex people getting pregnant and having children? Or are you, like all the other TERF’s going to stick your fingers in your ears and go “lalalalalalala, only women!”

Any comment on the hajira of India?

TERF’s are funny, their levels of ignorance are off the charts but they have no curiosity or desire to learn anything.

      • Funnily enough Helen Joyce comes from an academic science background.Journalism came later.
        And Carmen and Georgina?
        You’re calling them Uncle/Aunty Toms ?
        Shame on you
The Hajira?.I presume you are referencing Hijra?
So what? They exist, transgender people exist, as human beings they have rights, as do all humans, to security and dignity. The Hijra need better rights than they have
I happen to think that lesbians also have the right to refuse dick without being told theyre hateful bigots.I think lesbians have the right to be amongst their own without penised men barging their way in.
I don’t care how anyone likes to present themselves , I don’t care who they think they are , but I will never go in for the magical thinking that claims men can be women, that men can be lesbians .
They can start their own translesbian club and fuck each other.I can guarantee there’ll be no terfs clamouring to get in

  3. I can’t see how a business journalist is equipped to report on issues regarding human rights.

And whats with the contempt of court finding against her?

A TERF at the Guardian lost her shit after her medical and science journalist colleagues told her she didn’t know what she was talking about and her ignorant bigotry was intruding on their beat and making it difficult to do their job.

You don’t send a political journalist to review a film and you don’t send an entertainment journalist to interview a politician. Unless you’re a truly shit media organisation.

Looks like more misleading journalism from the Herald. Guess they ran out of boomers grumpy about having to wait for 10 seconds at roadworks.

  4. I don’t have a problem with anyone with a different sexual preference. People should be free to be who they choose to be. However I’m sick and tired of having it all shoved down my throat again and again. FGS just get on with your lives. Be kind, caring and stop this endless sh&t! There is a whole world out there to enjoy – just do it. Stop the stirring – we don’t want it and we certainly don’t need it. There is more than enough hate and angst out there to last a life-time! And yes, funny how NZ Herald are in there like vultures – makes you want to throw up, doesn’t it?

  5. Terf is a slur – gender critical is the proper term.

The dishonest practices of the Trans lobby are the reason they are despised – inciting violence against JK Rowling & Posie Parker & Graeme Lineham, then trying to exploit hate speech laws written for serious issues like the antimuslim groups like those that inspired the Chch shooter, not to protect the hurt feelings of cross dressers.

NZ had no problems with Georgina Beyer or Carmen back in the day – it is contemporary activism that is the issue. And that activism in schools will produce a cohort of maimed children whose eventual malpractice claims against the state will dwarf those of Lake Alice patients.

    • I’m critical of the whole lot of this mish-mash. Do you want to live in a reasonably pleasant world or not and want the same for others? Stop bloody fighting and hating those who are merely silly or different. Help people find themselves, not that they might not be themselves at all.

And I like the Freudian slip? that the NZ Herlad is covering it ‘elusively’ or? Is it meant to be exclusively. Really I think all these botherations about sexual identity are so 20th century darlings, y’all need to gather in some park and receive a hailstorm from above as in Christchurch where some folks now are slinking home and sipping mulled wine in front of a warm fire. Now wouldn’t that be more enjoyable and convivial. And the twist of lemon peel should be left out if they’re acidic types, who need a teaspoon of sugar to make the medicine go down. They need it. Get a life while they are still on offer.

      • When you’ve been dogpiled by Trans lobbyists often enough, you know who the haters are.

Males barely dare to teach in NZ because of fears of inappropriate behavior, but then this community demands and gets privileged access to other peoples’ children? The policy in this area is not data driven, it is in defiance of the facts, and indefensible.

It will have to be revised, and the authors of current policy must be viewed with extreme skepticism.

    • Also neither Georgina or Carmen insisted they were women.
They knew exactly who they were and we loved them for it and celebrated them

      • Oh do fuck off with the “Right sort of trans who knew their place” bullshit.

It’s very similar to the “maori used to know their place” crap we hear from right wing pricks.

But as they say, scratch a TERF, find a racist.

  6. I showed my elderly mother the photo of the TERF’s.

She said she would be rather concerned encountering those blokes in the women’s loo…

    Hahaha….
