My Final Word: Boot Camps Don’t Work — But That’s Not the Point

This week, Martyn rips the mask off the Government’s military-style boot camps for youth offenders. They don’t work. The evaluation says so. But their real goal isn’t rehabilitation — it’s political theatre. Boot camps exist to excite reactionary voters with fantasies of punishment and power. They’re not a solution — they’re a slogan. A cross to burn. A brand to weaponise. And a failure wrapped in a uniform. In solidarity — the revolution continues.

  1. ‘Fantasies of punishment and power’.
There you have it. That is what this govt. uses to get attention
In USA they are starting to realise that the common factor with ‘rump voters is that they like authoritarianism as long as it’s them being authoritarian. So, the religious nuts fit right in.
People removing the rights of women and others are being authoritarian. Seeing immigrants being brutalised and deported fits the pattern and wanting guns. Making it difficult to vote and then having to make sure your vote is counted, is another ploy. All these tactics make people afraid to express an opinion and put their heads above the parapet.
They are fine with authoritarianism up to the point where it’s them being punished or brutalised. Then they realise, that’s what they voted for.
Those who want bootcamps are agog with anticipation of blood and while they aren’t looking the Regulatory Standards bill gets passed and eventually they find their children and grandchildren will never own anything and will work until they die because all safe-guards to save them can be removed to favour business interests.
Distraction, one of Cluxon’s favourite words when the opposition is pointing out the contradictions of what’s happening.

  2. Military Boot Camps do not work?
Well now – that depends what you call success.
if you mean do they reduce criminal offending by juveniles? Of course they do not.
    HOWEVER
Do they give massive orgasms to those in love with fascism? OH MYGOD YESSSS!
Just think of the glazed, vacant look of a woman named Heather.
