Remember, remember, the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
This Guy Fawkes Day, EVERY Kiwi should take a copy of the MACA abomination and burn it!
The 5th November (which ironically also happens to be Parihaka Day) is that very British tradition where we gather for fireworks while forgetting the religious violence that it commemorates.
I think that we need to hijack Guy Fawkes and remind Governments that the people shouldn’t fear their Government, the Government should fear their people!
The Marine and Coastal Area Act (MACA) is an atrocity of legislation. Last year, Ministers Shane Jones and Paul Goldsmith bragged to the Seafood Industry that they would limit Māori Customary fishing rights to barely 5% of the coast, and lo and behold, that is what this legislation is aiming to do.
It flies in the face of all the work to reach an agreement on this issue and cements into place 19th Century White Settler Privilege.
It is an outrageous abuse of legal process designed to make it harder for Maori to establish their customary rights.
People paying attention have every right to be enraged at this injustice, and that is why on Guy Fawkes this year, every Kiwi who believes in justice should print a copy of the MACA and burn it.
