The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. Getting old? – the nation has noticed that you have problems and as it has made life harder for you as drivers by concentrating on roads to shift truckloads of the nation’s wealth, you have to be fit to drive on them or you will become an unwanted liability. Fact – face it, that is all true. So take note:
October 2025 changes are happening – Now.
    https://hueys.com.au/nz-driving-licence-renewal-rules-2025-new-changes-for-seniors-over-65/
Key Updates to the Licence Renewal System
The most noticeable change in the NZ driving licence renewal rules for 2025 is the shift in the age threshold for mandatory health checks. Previously, drivers were only required to undergo medical assessments starting at age 75. Under the new system, the minimum age for mandatory checks is reduced to 65. Renewals will now occur more frequently, and the evaluation process will be more comprehensive to ensure drivers continue to meet the physical and cognitive requirements necessary to operate a vehicle safely.

The updated system’s main components are summarized below:
    * Age Requirement: The mandatory medical assessment age has been lowered from 75 years to 65 years. This change ensures earlier detection of health concerns and supports preventive measures.
    * Medical Certificate: Instead of only a general health report, drivers must now undergo an expanded medical review, including vision, reaction speed, and cognitive response testing during every renewal cycle.
    * Driving Test: While not mandatory for every senior, an on-road test may be recommended for those identified by medical professionals as requiring further assessment before renewing their licence.
    * Renewal Period: Renewed licences for senior drivers will have a shorter validity period of 3 to 5 years, instead of the previous 5 to 10 years, depending on the results of the medical review.
These modifications make the renewal process more responsive, ensuring that every driver retains the necessary alertness and physical readiness to drive safely.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Renewal Process in 2025
To renew their driving licence smoothly, seniors should follow the updated steps outlined by the NZTA for 2025. The process has been designed to be flexible, simple, and accessible for elderly applicants, with both online and in-person options.
    * Book a Health Check Appointment: Seniors should begin by scheduling a medical examination with their general practitioner (GP). During this appointment, doctors will complete an official medical certificate evaluating vision, reflexes, and cognitive ability.
    * Obtain a Vision and Cognitive Report: Depending on the GP’s assessment, additional reports, such as eye tests or cognitive evaluations, may be required before completing the licence renewal.
    * Fill out the Renewal Form (DL1): The DL1 form is mandatory for every renewal. Applicant can access this at licensing agents or download through the NZTA website.
    * Provide Proof of Identity: Present a current licence along with an approved identification document such as a passport or birth certificate, to confirm identity.
    * Submit Your Medical Certificate: Attach the completed medical examination report to the renewal application. Renewals cannot proceed without this certificate.
    * Undertake a Driving Test (if required): If the medical results indicate potential issues, NZTA may request an on-road driving assessment. This short test is designed to evaluate reaction times, judgment, and awareness levels.
    * Pay the Renewal Fee: Renewal fees can be paid online or in person. Seniors with SuperGold cards may be entitled to certain concessions, lowering administrative costs.
By completing these steps in advance, applicants can prevent costly delays and ensure uninterrupted driving eligibility.

    Advantages of the Updated System
While some may view more frequent checks as an inconvenience, the 2025 renewal changes come with considerable benefits for drivers and communities alike. The purpose is not to restrict senior drivers but to establish a fair and adaptive system that protects everyone’s safety. Among the most positive outcomes are:
    * Personalized Assessments: The updated framework recognizes individual differences. A healthy and well-performing 70-year-old, for instance, will not face the same restrictions as one with severe vision issues or cognitive decline.
    * Better Health Monitoring: Early medical checks help in detecting health issues like glaucoma, early dementia, or diabetes-related impairment, all of which can affect driving ability if left unchecked.
    * Enhanced Communication: NZTA is implementing new digital systems that automatically send renewal reminders and provide personalized guidance on medical or testing requirements.
    * Community Mobility Options: Seniors who cannot renew their driving licences due to health restrictions will be advised on alternative transportation options, such as community transport services or mobility-assisted programs, helping them maintain independence.

    Preparing for the New Regulations
Since the new NZ driving licence renewal rules come into effect in October 2025, senior motorists are advised to begin preparing several months in advance. Scheduling GP appointments early can help avoid last-minute rushes and provide time to address any medical concerns detected during check-ups. Seniors should also ensure that their health records are up to date, including vision prescription and recent test results if applicable

  2. Luxon is clearly working for himself… It’s time he passed the baton on to someone more interested!

In this video I look at some of the things that Luxon has done which makes me question whether he became the Prime Minister for the right reasons…

All it seems to me is that he is getting richer as the majority of Kiwis are getting poorer!

You forgot the one where he rented out his own house to himself for his electoral office, claim the money and then had the government pay to renovate that house.

Of course when he gets caught doing all these things and says he’s going to stop for the fifth time there’s actually no way to actually verify this because they’re expense claims are now classified and it’s illegal to leak them..

What’s funny is the world doesn’t owe young people anything, but the world owes employers cheap employees from other places as well as big taxes, big profits and big pensions to the government, corporations and boomers!

  3. Every empire winds up with an emperor eventually.

Asked if he would run for a third term as president of the US Donald Trump refuses to rule it out. But then says he wouldn’t run for a third term as president if his health wasn’t up to it.

That president Trump is toying with the idea of making a bid for a third term, something expressly forbidden in the US constitution, should be worrying to all.

Trump refuses to rule out 3rd term, says he got ‘perfect’ MRI at Walter Reed

Speaking with reporters on board Air Force One en route to Japan on Monday, President Donald Trump again refused to rule out a bid for a third presidential term, despite the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to being elected twice.
“I would love to do it,” Trump said when asked about the prospect of a 2028 presidential bid. “I have my best numbers ever. It’s very terrible. I have my best numbers,” he continued.
“Am I not ruling it out? You’ll have to tell me,” Trump said when pressed on the matter.
…. the president mentioning that if his health screenings come back to reveal something bad he “wouldn’t run.”
“And if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively. I wouldn’t run. I’d do something. But the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen,” Trump said.
