7 more people killed and 33 wounded
Since dawn on 9 October, Israeli air strikes, missile-launches and gunfire on homes, as well as medical and other facilities, have resulted in 7 dead and 33 wounded people. One person has died from wounds received earlier.
Civil Defence crews retrieved 117 more bodies from underneath bomb-damaged property, bringing the total reported number now killed in Gaza, since 7 October 2023, to at least 67,806. The total reported wounded is now at least 170,066. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 92 and, that of those injured, is more than 232. A UN report states that, as of 14 January 2025, around 70% of those killed in Gaza were women and children.
NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters recognises “. . . one country called Palestine”
Yesterday, in a revealing interview on Al Jazeera television, NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters justified the NZ Government’s failure to recognise the Palestinian state but later expressed concerns for “not just one country called Palestine.” Peters showed no interest in protecting Palestinians from growing Israeli land Occupation and settler violence in the West Bank nor would he admit that Israel’s border control and starvation of Gaza amounted to genocide. The racist denial by Israeli Government leaders of the Palestinian people’s right to a sovereign Palestinian state lays bare Zionism’s true objective.
West Bank
Since 24:00 on 7 October 2023, Israeli Occupation forces have been imposing a complete closure on the West Bank, preventing residents and other permit-holders from entering or leaving. The Israeli military also imposes severe and highly–variable travel restrictions on all residents.
