Speaker of the House suspends Parliament as Haka for Oriini Kaipara roars out

Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee has suspended the House in the wake of Oriini Kaipara’s maiden speech.

After testing the Speaker’s patience with a much longer speech, followed by song, the Speaker suspended the House as a Haka broke out.

He cried out, “No, not that. The guarantee was that wouldn’t take place”

He then suspended the House.

Oriini’s maiden speech was a journey of resistance, rebirth and an unashamed to be Māori worldview.

It was beautifully written and passionately delivered.

The suspension for another Haka makes it crystal clear that while the Māori Party are in a ‘reset’, they will still grind up against a system they inherently believe serves the interest of the rich and few rather than the many.

The new pivot to material solutions and finding ways to build bridges between the Greens and Labour is the exact tonic to internal ego’s and the desire to air dirty laundry in front of the Marae.

The enemy is not the Māori Party leadership, the enemy is the National, ACT and NZF Government and their appalling anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-worker, anti-renter, anti-beneficiary, anti-disabled, anti-environment agenda that strangles the common good for their donors interests.

Every Poll tells us how close the next election is, every poll tells us Labour will need the Greens and Māori Party, so instead of trying to attack the Māori Party from inside, perhaps the internal dramas and egos driving this division need to reflect on that.

Everyone on the Left needs the Māori Party reset, not just the Māori Party.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. Gerry Brownlee- fine with with Simon Court defending noncing kids.

    Maori culture though? That’s verboten

  2. Now why is the former Wood-work that is Brownlee behaving in such a manner???!!!!

Is he Running Later for a Plane or just being Typical National Party in Support????!!

Will he demand Everyone Reads a Page of a book that Doesn’t Exist because when questioned he throws a Woodwork Temper Tantrum and storms out of some place because Out of His Own Laziness He is like Willis and Luxon Way out of his Depth Mentally????!!

  3. You can tell Brownlee is still a woodwork teacher at heart.
Still yearning for the days when he could give naughty boys and girls six of the best and only English used in class!

  4. Brownlie can only handle a little Maori the distain on his face and the lady that sit in front of him showed her true colors and represents IMO pakeha true feelings towards Maori and our culture

    Free Aotearoa

  5. I believe the reason why brownlee is so neurotic about the Haka etc is that, that display of unity might spread like wildfire.
He could care less about protocols and traditions. He’s instead terrified about people et al uniting because that would mean that The Power would return to the people and would no longer be the domain of rich bullies.

  6. Aotearoa is bi lingual and bi cultural at an official level. Brownlee and his ilk need to get with the programme.

  7. I believe the reason why brownlee is so neurotic about the Haka etc is that, that message of unity might spread like wildfire.
I seriously doubt he could care less about protocols and traditions. He’s instead more likely terrified about we people, the general populace et al uniting because that would mean that the power could return to the people and would no longer be the domain of rich, secretive, privateer bullies hovering about in OUR parliaments lobby.
Or I could be wrong and brownlee is, in fact, a wonderful, impartial and deeply respectable politician who is well entitled to the high six figures we must pay him and is deserving of, because clearly he has our best interests at heart. Wikipedia: As of 2020, his annual salary is NZ$296,007.

  8. ‘ He cried out, “No, not that. The guarantee was that wouldn’t take place” ‘

So who guaranteed what to who in return for what?

  9. Brownlee is a useless grifter – but hakas have no place in parliament. On the lawn outside if they must.

  10. Jesus these young rebel Wahine must be put back in the kitchen and steralized at once .Then we must pass a law under urgency to prevent Haka in public places and remove all tattoo at once .Any one committing these offences must be jailed for at least 50 years and do hard labour down one of Dr Porks mines .
For fuck sake what is wrong with these colonists ,they invite millions of people to NZ to see our wonderful culture and spread the lie tat we treat Maori as their equal so long as they only perform when the colonists want them to so they can clip the ticket for the 1% .

  11. Without the Haka and upsetting the speaker the content of Oriini Kaipara’s maiden speech may have made the news instead. I don’t think Te Pāti Māori are playing the right game. I’m not convinced Te Pāti Māori want the left block to win the next election, I suspect that is a secondary goal to winning all the Māori seats.
