Merciless blitz on starving Gaza growing numbers

Since dawn, Israeli air strikes, missile-launches and gunfire on homes, as well as medical and other facilities, have resulted in 65 dead and 153 wounded. Civil Defence crews retrieved two more bodies from underneath bomb-damaged property, bringing the total number now killed in Gaza, since 7 October 2023, to at least 67,139. The total wounded is now at least 169,583. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 92 and, that of those injured, is more than 232. A UN report states that, as of 14 January 2025, around 70% of those killed in Gaza were women and children.

To end the starvation in Gaza, bring back UNRWA

Western states have condemned the famine. They can end it by refunding UNRWA, the only agency capable of fairly and efficiently distributing aid. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) was created in December 1949, almost two years after the UN voted for the partition of Palestine. It was, and still is, the only UN agency dedicated solely to one dispossessed population — the Palestinians.

In the decades following its creation, UNRWA was engaged in almost all aspects of Palestinian life — from food distribution to health-care and education to utilities provision. Amid the genocide in Gaza, the agency was sidelined, and its operations were restricted under Israeli pressure.

Gaza bombarded despite Donald Trump telling Israel to stop

Israeli attacks have continued across Gaza, killing dozens of Palestinians, in spite of US President Donald Trump’s direct call for Israel to immediately halt its bombing. Hamas said it accepted many elements of the 20-point plan to end the war.

Leslie Bravery
Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!
