66 more people killed and 265 wounded
Since dawn, Israeli air strikes, missile–launches and gunfire on homes, as well as medical and other facilities, have resulted in 66dead and 265 wounded. With an additional 720 deaths filed by the UN committee responsible for updating and confirming data concerning missing persons in Gaza, the total number now killed in Gaza, since 7 October 2023, has risen to at least 67,074 and the total wounded is at least 169,430. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 92 and, that of those injured, is more than 233. A UN report states that, as of 14 January 2025, around 70% of those killed in Gaza were women and children.
West Bank
Since 24:00 on 7 October 2023, Israeli Occupation forces have been imposing a complete closure on the West Bank, preventing residents and other permit-holders from entering or leaving. The Israeli military also imposes severe and highly variable travel restrictions on all residents.
Israel’s ideological contempt for International Law and Human Rights
In September, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, attended a ceremony in the Palestinian West Bank, celebrating the expansion of the illegal Israeli Occupation settlement, Ma’ale Adumim. In an address at the ceremony, the PM confirmed: “We said there will be no Palestinian state and, indeed, there will be no Palestinian state! This place is ours. We will take care of our heritage, our land and our security.” The settlement’s location certainly represents an obstruction to the establishment of a contiguous Palestinian state.
Not only has the International Court of Justice declared the Israeli settlement to be illegal, but also the UN Security Council has passed several resolutions condemning settlements, most recently in 2016. Last year, the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament), passed with a 68-9 majority, a resolution that “firmly opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state west of Jordan”.
