The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog, 3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.
All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.
EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

What a cock-up the revamped Lotto marketing is, or should I say what a pink flamingo, though why feature pink flamingos anyway? Does the Lottery Commission really think that bombarding punters with over-busy optics or, according to my local outlet “messy” visual screenings, will make them splurge out even more? Nope.
Somebody doubtless got a massive pay rise for this infantilising aesthetic assault implemented to get more of our already-stretched resources, and to crown it all, they’ve changed the name of this country ( Can they do that ?) and sign off tickets using jargonese. Stuff them.
The word that stands out above is ‘infantilising’! I notice this quite often; cute little faces to press on business pages to tell your little sorrows and questions to etc. Or snappy praise when you complete some necessary action on a business page – yeah! And even the way I get talked to, sometimes I may look dopey but often it seems a programmed approach.
Greywarbler. Yes, infantilising. The new Powerball Lotto ticket itself is both garish and childish, and carries political messaging stating, “ Any time you play with Lotto NZ, it’s a win for Aotearo.” Dunno what their agenda is here, but any name change is the prerogative of the people of New Zealand, not the Lotteries Commission or the Dept of Internal Affairs. Could just be over-reach by some mad Wellington public servants.
When buying a Lotto ticket one is now assaulted with colourful graphics on a par with the bright cartoon characters which kiddies watch on their iPads. This is a bit odd, when their target audience should be adults. My lotto outlet urged me to contact the Minister about the new process. I won’t, but I agree with you about a programmed approach, and am inclined to regard it as pernicious – and definitely bad manners !
Well the ‘manner’ of communication good or bad, to me from anyone with power of some sort is something I filter now, which has never been my normal way. I am feeling for truth and real people being real and straightforward; they don’t have to be entirely honest in everything, but I am wary of people too nice, not sure about people who are sharp and abrupt.
So guess I am using an invisible ‘Real Person Meter’, and even do it on this blog. I’m feeling out who or what is the ‘progenitor’ of some comment – is it AI, is it programmed deadhead neolib, and soaked in self? You may be amused that I don’t think you are GA.

Is this a country good to live in with good systems that support its citizens? Or is it a callous, careless place with a veneer of refinement, an appearance of valuing honesty and service from the systems set up supposedly for people’s assistance, and supporting civil society?
We have a long-term National MP who has stepped down and has been Mayor of Nelson. Knowing how irresponsible Nats are plus hangers on, I imagine he will go on standing for re-election in the local body one.
Despite this: Nelson’s economic woes:

A politician is a man who understands government. A statesman is a politician who’s been dead for 15 years.
Harry S Truman
The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often in the loudest voice.
Theodore Roosevelt
Political tyranny is nothing compared to the social tyranny, and a reformer who defies society is a more courageous man than a politician who defies Government.

We need to have the option of having a plastic drivers licence as now.
Put your trust in the net ppfff. Also I don’t want to cart my cellphone or whatever around with me. Its expensive and just is extra worry for me. Then it has to be charged and cashed up to work. Then there is the occasion of having to change to another phone. That means downloading and a whole rigmarole to go through.
F that. Every time government forces us to use the net they weaken our supremacy over out personal choice and safety – they limit our choice and that was such a big banner for changing from a careful quiet country with ideas, to one that doesn’t have its own ideas and just get handed machines to use instead of our brains.
And being in a hurry like Collins making a show of authority. A hurry was what caused the British Post Office abomination disaster. The UK state then chose to point finger at innocent citizens who were caught up in an ex-government murky accounting setup within the computerised post office system. People suffered big, and fought against the dishonest, blank government wall, and those who knew the truth but didn’t want everything falling on their personal heads.
It is sure to happen again because the unbelievable happened once, so WTF, Now business and corporations, and government? have status of a person in law. The average citizen won’t have a feather to fly with in an imbroglio with large entities.
See – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_personhood | In most countries,
a corporation has the same rights as a natural person to hold property, enter into contracts, and to sue or be sued.,,

10 pages of misdeeds. Why wouldn’t it be better to have kept this guy in an open prison,, with an interesting planned life in conjunction with other similar blokes. Some isolation when inevitably one of the other people or himself played up. There has to be some practicality and kindness in this modern age and it will keep expenses down and make life safer for the ordinary person trying to manage. Instead we have these financial economic puritans with a Jeff Epstein mentality. Of course we will get this type of thing now the mental homes have shut down. Some weren’t well run and needed to be reorganised but not obliterated. The community was going to care for these people but of course the pollies and better off would not do it unless it was one of their own.
Greywarbler. Yesterday, in the Sallies, an elderly lady, certainly in her 80’s, produced a China object which she’d purchased previously, asking for a cash refund.
Trouble was, the accompanying receipt was for a pair of shoes, from another charity shop, not this one.
She retired to an empty trolley and started sorting through the dozens of receipts and dockets in her bag. Reminded me of the elderly lady. Miss F, in Dickens “Bleak House”, who haunts the courts of Chancery carrying a reticule bulging with documents. I gave her $10, and said that maybe that’d help. She thanked me in beautiful cut-glass English – almost a stigma in today’s sloppy “ Cheers, Lotto NZ players!” world.
NZ Super doesn’t come thru’ until next week. This shouldn’t have happened. Whether $10 was even helpful I don’t know, but I know that sfa politicians are acquainted with these sort of happenings.
Problem is, should I buy a lotto ticket to help New Zealand become Aotearoa ? Sneaky bastards.
That’s a moot point. We are all a bit devious and the pollies etc are a bit ahead of us. Is Lotto really NZ owned by the gummint now? Have they contracted that out to Aussie banks or? But it does give money to some worthy causes so it’s a good thing to do, so buy up. We just have to do the best we can with what we have.
NZ as an entity is lost. NZAO could go on, with supportive Kiwis to get it and keep it, “Do you Kiwi citizen take this land and accoutrements to be your lawful wedded country and will you look after it in sickness and health” sort of thing). Ridiculous sounding I know, but we have to use our imaginations, think of ways and practices, and make it work or it is curtains for so many of us before our time.
And lives must be shorter and be able to register to have a waiting time and thinking period before ‘passing over’. Also needed is people all doing something whatever their age, to pull their weight; darning for the needy from oldies in wheelchairs, with someone to thread the needle, would be one really helpful thing. Start a touring drama company from WEA background, with JM Barrie’s play The Admirable Crichton about knowing how to do things not just buying them as needed. Sounds 1950ish as I think all good people will have to regress for the sake of the Party!
