Christopher Luxon’s economic mismanagement has cost 20,000 people their jobs in the construction sector.

“Since National took office, 20,000 people have lost their jobs in construction, an industry that should be booming with work. Instead, Luxon’s stop-start approach has cost people their jobs and pushed them overseas to find work,” Labour leader Chris Hipkins said.

“The construction industry is facing a jobs crisis, and Christopher Luxon is too out of touch to do anything about it. In fact, he’s making things worse.

“Our economy is on the brink of another recession, with tens of thousands of people either losing their jobs, leaving for Australia, or losing hope altogether.

“He promised his business background would help, but even the business community has lost confidence in his leadership.

“He’ll say he just needs more time, but after two years we are going backwards. Meanwhile, the cost of living is soaring, jobs are disappearing, and people are doing it tough.

“Luxon’s Government is so out of touch, his own Finance Minister even said people shouldn’t take losing their jobs personally.

“Labour will provide long-term certainty, so people can keep their jobs and build a better future right here in New Zealand,” Chris Hipkins said.
