In the wake of the shameful decision to not recognise Palestine, Labour Party Leaders Chris Hipkins joins us live 1 on 1 in 10 for the latest insights.
The Political Panel:
- Riccardo Menenedez-March – Green Party MP
- Michael Wood – Union Director
Topics:
- Decision to not recognise Palestine
- CEO mood of the boardroom
- Decision to reopen oil and gas exploration
- Local Body elections and voter suppression

I’d be interested to know if Hipkins agrees with Winston Peters that a ‘peace plan’ with war criminal Tony Blair ruling over the population of the Gaza concentration camp is a great or even acceptable thing, and whether he will commit to opposing the ridiculous idea that Palestinians have no right to be armed to defend themselves against the pedophiles who come to rape and kill them?
Could you ask the panel how they would resurrect Timber, Tourism, Retail, negate high unemployment, skyrocketing power and grocery costs, 10’s of thousands heading to Aussie, low wages, overpriced butter and cheese and high rents. Because that’s what this National coalition have bought us. We know they’re rich and sorted, Luxon keeps telling us.
Here’s a few, reinstate a 21st Century Ministry of Works, ministry of Forestry and nationalise the electricity sector. There are a dozen more but that’s a good start!
Congratulations are in order. Chris Hipkins and the New Zealand Labour Party have finally changed their position that Israel is not committing a genocide in Gaza, (until the international bodies make adetermination).
The UN international body has made that decision.
What is momentous about Chris Hipkins and the New Zealand Labour Party also stating that genocide is being committted in Gaza, is that it has come during the UK Labour Party conference where a vote from the floor called on the Labour Party leadership and party to officialy declare that a genocide was being committed in Gaza.
In a panic the Labour Party leadership put up a countervailing motion that there was a genocide in the making in Gaza.
The difference between the two motions is that the genocide convention obligates states to act to prevent and punish the crime of genocide. The UK Labour Party leadership do not want to be bound by the legal obligation to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.
Needless to say the members bill was passed and the Labour Party leadership bill was dumped.
The big battle now will shift to the UK parliament. Will the Labour government heed the Labour Party?
Will the UK Labour Party backbenchers force a vote in the UK Parliament?
Will the Labour Party leadership of Keir Starmer try to whip the Labour MPs to vote it down?
All politics is pressure.

The Labour government is doing its best to keep Gaza off the agenda at this year’s Party conference. But the people have different ideas…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMtb75LWI6c
Beginning @2:42 minutes:
……over 1,600 people have been arrested for breaking the ban with further mass actions planned for London this weekend.
Pro Palestine Labour Party members have used more formal channels for forcing Israel’s genocide in Gaza onto the agenda at the Labour Party conference.
One of the motions put to the Labour Party conference, backed by trade unions, Unison and ASL and called on the government to employ all means reasonably available to it to prevent the commission of genocide in Gaza.
The motion made it Labour Party policy to fully suspend the arms trade with Israel, to suspend the UK Israel trade and partnership agreement, and for the Labour Party to accept the findings of the UN Commission of inquiry.
That last clause is particularly significant, because that’s the UN Commission that found Israel to be committing genocide.
Now that of course, has long been a conclusion the Labor government have been unwilling to draw.
And the Labour leadership, did in fact, table their own motion, which sought to fudge the issue.
Foreign Office, Minister Hamish Falconer proposed a motion which suggested, the UN said, ‘Israel is at risk of committing genocide in Gaza.’
Now, that’s just false.
The UN clearly concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, arguing that the country met both the mental and material components of the crime.
In terms of intent, and in terms of consequences.
Responding to the Labour Party leadership’s motion, John McDonald said this;
“I am absolutely horrified that the Minister, Hamish Falconer, and the leadership is seeking to deliberately mislead Labour Party members. The UN Commission of Inquiry was unequivocal. It said Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza.
…..Now just before we came on air, the Labour Party Conference passed the motion backed by delegates and the unions which affirmed that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. That’s the first time the Labour party has officially recognized that.
The government’s motion watering down the findings of the UN report has been rejected……
All poilitics is Pressure;
Circumstances are different here, the Labour Party is not in government, But there is no reason that the Labour and other opposition parties cannot put the same sort of pressure on the Luxon government and force a vote in parliament to recognise the Gaza genocide.
The vote may fail, but at the very least will have the votes of the genocide denier MPs on the permanent record. One day there will be a reckoning, and those who deny the genocide now, will try to distance themselves from their current position, much like Jim Bolger did over his support for apartheid rugby.
From Al Jazeera;
UK Labour Party members vote to recognise Gaza genocide at conference
The move adds pressure on the UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which has been slammed over its stance on the Gaza war…
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/9/29/uk-labour-party-members-vote-to-recognise-gaza-genocide-at-conference
….Members of the United Kingdom’s Labour Party have voted to recognise that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, in a move that increases pressure on the UK government to adopt the same position…
…..The decision contrasts with Labour leader and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as senior ministers, who have argued that the question of genocide should be determined by international courts rather than politicians…..
…..Ben Jamal, the director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign activist organisation, said that the vote is “a huge defeat for the government”……
“If the government tries to ignore this momentous vote, it would not only be in denial of the facts, against public opinion, increasingly globally isolated, but also at war with its own party.”
Excellent korero, whanau. Uplifting.
Great to hear Christopher Hipkins calling out an “unfolding genocide in Gaza” The leader of the oppostion can now start taking the government apart for not honouring this country’s legally binding obligations to the Genocide Convention.
Ricardo was interesting and chippie needs to build a strong plan with the greens at least if the Maori party has not become a family party which appears to be the case .
