‘We were hit with a lot’ – Dame Jacinda Arden discusses Christchurch terror attack, public backlash on US talk show

The former Prime Minister chatted with The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart about Trump, her upcoming documentary and whether a return to politics was in her future.

I wept watching Jacinda on The Daily Show.

Watching her get the acknowledgement she actually deserves brought tears to my eyes.

We were incredibly fortunate to have her as Prime Minister and watching the way feral anti-vaxx and post-covid bitter Kiwis turned on her should forever shame us.

I believe much of that post-Covid bitterness drove many to elect this far fight fuckwit Government without reading the fine print and seeing that same Government now destroy the economy is a delightful karma for all this anti-vaxx culture warriors.

We didn’t know how lucky we were.

I hope Jacinda becomes our First UN President.

Could you imagine the scream from Mike Hosking, Sean Plunkett, Heather, Ryan, Don Brash and David Seymour?

Happy Days.

Kia kaha Jacinda!

  1. I wish her government had done more – but I’m pretty sure the problem was too many old Rogergnomes way past their useby date.

Jacinda is excellent – restoring Labour to respectability is an Herculean task, like washing away an Augean stables of bullshit – once we’re done south Canterbury aquifers will be a walkover by comparison.

  2. Info about film and also one scrapped.

Adern herself has given her full backing to the film, which was made without New Zealand Film Commission or New Zealand taxpayer funding.
The film is the second documentary set to be released about Ardern, with the New Zealand Film Commission contributing $800,000 towards another documentary, also set for release in 2025.

Some thoughts about the various problems and boobytraps that awaited our PM Jacinda as she gathered her strengths and went about her task of being Head of NZ (visible) during her time as Prime Minister. The book The Selfish Capitalist covers our conditions rolling out during her elevation to Leader even though published in 2009 – follows previous book Affluenza.

Extract – “I am the government of your country…When I want anything to keep my dividends up, you will discover that my want is a national need. When other people want something to keep my dividends down, you will call out the police and the military. And in return you shall have the support and applause of my newspapers, and the delight of imagining that you are a great statesman.” Taken from [George Bernard Shaw] Shaw’s Major Barbara, first performed in 1905
(This comes from this Bread and Roses review of a book about USA political culture and methods around the world. https://breadandroses123.blogspot.com/2008/02/selfish-capitalist-book-review.html)
…James believes that the transition from the traditional, Keynesian economic practices of the pre-late 1970s to the neo-conservative economics of the 1980s is responsible for ill-being and social disintegration. He argues that a free-market economy, based on consumerism and share prices and lacking long term investment in companies, is damaging as it has only made the rich very much richer. Mrs Thatcher’s promised “trickle down affect” never really happened, and we have only been encouraged, by successive governments to increase our debt, increase our working hours, increase our spending and leave our homes and families in search of the almighty dollar (pound), this makes the average Joe(anne) tired, fat, sick and depressed …

The Selfish Capitalist – Oliver James
…The Selfish Capitalist provides more detailed substantiation for the claims made in Affluenza. It looks deeper into the origins of the virus and outlines the political, economic and social climate in which it has grown…

  3. Trump came back successfully a second time. Some might say more successfully the second time. Just saying. Just putting it out there. Jeremy Corbyn is back in the game – another second timer. It’s not impossible. Politics has a short memory.

    • Definitely not for Ardern though. You want to fight me on the starting point of February ’22?
Would you give the likes of Tekahika a clear slate??

  4. The best Prime Minister of my lifetime.
Prime Minister Ardern was hated by the Right Wing for putting human lives and public health above private profit taking.

Calling the anti-vaxxers feral almost gives the impression that this was a spontaneous movement
The Right funded it, the Right incited it. A more accurate description of this movement would be astroturf.

The anti Ardern movement came in two parts.

Before the development and roll out of the covid vaccine, the only way to control the spread of the virus was through lockdowns. The Right were screaming blue murder about the interruption in the flow of profits caused by the lockdowns. It is easy to forget that preceding the antivaxx conspiracy the Far Right spread a conspiracy that the Ardern government was deliberately making people sick by building 5G cell phone towers to radiate the population in some sort of Left Wing plot. Cell phone towers were being burnt down and technicians and health workers were being abused and assaulted as part of the conspiracy.

At the end of the riot on the parliament lawn the police said they were going to investigate the funders behind this movement. We never heard anymore.

Vaccine scepticism was just a hook for the far right to hang their anti-human anti environmental profit driven agenda. The Right always have to hide their real agenda behind some conspiracy, because their real agenda of exploitation and austerity, racism and repression is hard to build a mass movement around.

    • It is said to be the Verry Family – the owners of Red Stag Timber – that paid the legal expenses of the clownvoy.

    • As a Leftie, harder core than most lefties, I started out loving her, now I despise her. As such, this ain’t a Left/Right thang, this is a people thang, and I, more than most people here, represent the people. Meanwhile, your beloved, Martyn’s beloved, is where, spilling her heart out to local, Kiwi media, time after time or time, or what….

You know more about Syria than you know about this shyt, Pat, and what you know about Syria, wouldn’t even fill my little frigging pinky finger.

Fuck the Left/Right b/s…as the genocide in Palestine clearly shows, we are all in a class war, not a people war!

  5. I dread it when Dame Jacinda is mentioned because all the crazies come out to play. You know the pathetic losers who just love the right wing play book, the ones who eulogize individuals who spread hatred ,misogyny and racism under the guise of Christianity and who want to make such people saints, you know the ones who never saved even one life

    • I agree Willis is milking it and she has run out of people to blame for her abysmal crashing of our economy that she has now blamed Key. That is so fucking hilarious because that’s what Key did, he milked it and has been cashing in ever since.
Dame Jacinda has worldwide status and for some the jealousy continues.

  6. Dear Martyn,
It’s either Jesus wept or Ardern wept. You CANNOT have it both ways. THIS is the day of Salvation.

  7. The attacks against her were, to my mind, carefully and cynically orchestrated by a few mysteriously-paid nasties manipulating those susceptible individuals I generically call the “#AngryStupid”. Sadly, humans are far too easily whipped into a frothing frenzy of ignorant anger by the right whispered messages and our societies must eventually find ways to minimise the harm these prodded sheeple can wreak. The current fake government, every bit as integrity-compromised as the Trump version, has been actively funded and guided by the Exxon->Koch->Atlas Network->Topham Guerin chain of Greed-based Right-Wing excess. These mouthing morons forget when NZ was locked down, we knew almost NOTHING about the virus so being overly cautious was exactly the right and proper course to take. We saw how more cavalier approaches as happened i Sweden, for instance, eventually bit those that had righteously refused to take precautions.

  8. I am, and always have been a Jacinda Ardern supporter. She had/still has the qualities of a great leader! Damn Covid! After successfully leading us through a soul-destroying pandemic she simply didn’t have anything left in the tank. Sadly I doubt we will ever get another leader of her calibre. Life throws so much at you, some good but much unjustified, i.e. the spite, scorn and lack of gratitude, because some were unable to see or accept the facts. Whatever Jacinda does will always be done to the highest standard so we should all ignore the ignorant, bitter and twisted bullies who tried to destroy her, but clearly failed as she has reached new heights. I would love to see her back in politics but on her terms.

  9. You have to give her credit overall for the pandemic response. Let’s face it, we aren’t prepared for much at all really. Was it perfect no, but how was it going to be. Christchurch massacre she showed leadership. CGT cop out a disgrace, silence on the weed referendum very disappointing, and three waters wtf was that. Don’t blame her for cashing in given the f’ing incel-like dickheads, groinswell drop kicks, and others that tormented her. The reality is she probably doesn’t feel comfortable coming back so she’s not without sacrifice.

  10. Why would she bother to return to the ungreatful country of NZ .She saved the dairy and meat farmers and got abused .She saved kiwi lives and got abused .She saved jobs and businesses and got abused and now those jobs and businesses are gone and she is still being abused .
We had our chance to build a great nation by the people for the people and squandered the chance and look where we are now ,nothing more than what NZ voted for .Greed and hate won the day .

  11. We were incredibly fortunate to have her as Prime MinisterTOTALLY AGREE

and watching the way feral anti-vaxx and post-covid bitter Kiwis turned on her should forever shame us.VAPID WITCH HUNTING.

When Jacinda told us she was the single source of truth everybody should have reached for their copy of 1984.

Reality is Jacindas kindness didn’t fundamentally challenge neo liberalism. Read Killers comment above.

  12. I kept trying to imagine todays clown in an interview with John, I think he would have crawled off as the laughter subsided after the ‘what i would say to you ‘

  13. I am thinking that if it wasn’t for Jacinda Ardern and the Labour government many of us wouldn’t be here today. And so I would like to Thank Her for the response to the COVID Pandemic. Lockdowns were a necessity and also making the vaccines free was also appreciated.
If we had a National government during the height of COVID they(National)would have expected NZers to pay out of THEIR OWN POCKETS for the vaccines. In deliberately Kept Low Income NZ that would have taken a chunk out of NZers income. The National leader at the time was Judith Collins and she was the one who wanted User Pay for COVID vaccines. But then we can always expect that from Collins. She doesn’t exactly have an exemplary Track Record when it comes to Human Beings.
Earlier on I was listening to Coast Radio and the morning DJs. They talked about Jacinda and one of the comments really Angered me alot. One of the Idiot DJs said that Jacinda should have fronted up to the COVID Inquiry. I believe she did at the First COVID Inquiry and this second Inquiry was set up by National and ACT in June last year.
So along with switching off listening to Coast Radio ever again I hope Jacinda comes back to NZ to live. She was a huge improvement to the political spectrum. Todays’ CoC is like watching a Three Ringed Circus and thinking when will the CLOWNS leave the stage eg Luxon, Seymour and Peters???!!!
