Government accelerates $413m school property upgrades with new $58m funding

Education Minister Erica Stanford says every school in New Zealand will benefit from today’s $413 million school infrastructure announcement, which brings forward already planned projects.

“We have a significant pipeline of maintenance work to keep our schools in great shape, but we’re accelerating $413m of projects so they can get under way sooner,” Stanford said.

“This will enable schools to do significant maintenance over the coming summer holidays, and support more rural and isolated schools to upgrade their infrastructure.”

Of the $413m, $58m is new funding for operating maintenance work for all schools.

Are you fucking kidding me?

WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO BUILD IT ERICA? ALL OUR WORKERS HAVE FLED TO AUSTRALIA!

This Government’s insane decision to slash all the infrastructure last year has directly created the crash in our GDP as Kiwi workers left NZ  BECAUSE the Government destroyed the pipeline of work that Labour had built!

Watching the Government scramble to respond to the self mutilation they themselves created would be funny if it weren’t so sad.

None of you are buying this bullshit are you?

You aren’t so simple that all the PM has to do is pop on an orange jacket and you all believe he’s building something?

  1. My son is involved in construction in Melbourne and the industry is not pinging so some workers may come back to the work now available here.

      • Sounds like you want the country to fail just because you hate the government. Should we not want skilled New Zealander to come back into the country?

        • If skilled NZers are coming back, why are we giving our citizenship away like candy to get trades people in due to a shortage thanks to your government Frank.

        • 1. The Nz Citizens you’re talking about ARE already able to come back. The new fast track skilled migrant announcement today is NOT those already nz citizens!!!!! DUH
2.. EIGHTEEN THOUSAND, EIGHTEEN THOUSAND, EIGHTEEN THOUSAND here in nz construction HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS under the COC, So as a strategy the LET’S PRETEND CoC are fixing schools that have to be BUILT ANYWAY by borrowing FORWARD. Who’s a maths peasant???
          3. Weekly, more construction and trades companies are laying off workers still. Check the Treasury reports !!!
          4. Running around the shelved like they’re scrabbling for any bargain Solutions at kmart AND BINGO! SLAP the EIGHTEEN THOUSAND again, fast track migrant workers for these jobs.
          5. Then head to the $2 shop after crashing Nelson/Tasman industries, SLAP them again by CANCELLING port side construction worth $1B plus.
          6. Then bring in the ICE queen , Van Velden and make her announcement as a distraction, playing jiggery pokery with employment law. No details about who those ‘ skilled migrant workers are for Coincidence…. ??
          7. Next up Pork Jones with fast track DEAD mining industries to overseas players ,that pay a pittance only in royalties. Can you see the link to WHO is to come as a migrant worker?
          8. Run out of options of who to blame …BLAME TRUMP for the mess…
          9. Open your utility and rates bills, sigh with relief and say , ‘ oh that naughty Trump!’
          10. Have a glass of whatever polluted soil/air grown , toxic drink you can while plants still grow… say ‘ Cheers NACTZIs, thank god I’m sorted ‘ and just keep voting for the Pretend Government of Guesswork.

        • The country is failing BECAUSE of this government Frank.
Yes the skilled New Zealand workers will come back when we elect a government that doesn’t fail us. Whilst things were steady under the previous government, as outlined today in Mood of the Boardroom, this lot has taken us backwards wand everyone hates what they have done.

    • I’m in Australia and construction is booming particularly in public transport construction.

The financial review also reported this…

Not sure whether your son has the same negative approach as you but Australia needs more kiwis here to fill vacancies. The one common thing here is they like kiwis because they are hard workers. Is your son a kiwi or has he ever been a kiwi?

  2. ANOTHER Labour policy revived .I say that because before the election an up grade at our local college was ready to rock and roll in early 2024 .That was soon put in the bin by the ferry sinker .Now they have no plicy of their own its back on the table .I note Stanford shouting about how she is paying $622 000 for prefab classrooms ,what a joke .You can build a similar sized prefab house for 400k and that includes a kitchen and bathroom along with internal walls .So 600k for a shell is over the top .I recently viewed a 3 room block built under the school covid recovery plan which was built for under 1 million including toilet facilities .

    • We used to have the MOW to keep pricing realistic. From what I can remember, the private sector claimed they were better & cheaper as the excuse to shut the MOW, but now that they are in control, prices continually escalate.

      • It’s funny really – you’d expect that folk that pretend to economic literacy as enthusiastically as the Gnats would remember that prices are set by the operator with the second lowest operating costs. Once you allow a monopoly to develop, there is no longer any constraint on price.

  3. Another back flip for which Luxon was renown for before the election .Labour is clearly the better government and had long term view of what was needed for NZ .That plan has been disrupted because of Willis focus of feeding more money to the rich and famous who are now fucking her over by closing every viable business down with long term damage in the future .We will soon be importing everything we eat and need to build anything .

  4. It’s quite a positive development really.

Conventional wisdom was that these far-right fiscal ass-clowns were so wedded to their bullshit that they’d still be spinning it when the starving post-apocalyptic masses got into hunting them through the streets for their exquisitely marbled taxpayer funded flesh.

Some people learn from books. Others can learn from watching other people’s mistakes. But the coalition belongs to that subset of people that learn empirically, which is to say by peeing on the electric fence. The hopeful thing is that they seem to have actually learned something (I’m sure their old frustrated teachers feel vindicated – “See!” they’re saying, “Sure they’re fucking stupid – but they actually CAN learn”)

So it’s a hopeful thing. But don’t be blowing up balloons & stringing streamers just yet – they’ll forget it pdq.

  5. Yes, and to make matters worse the National party are opening us up to more foreign workers coming here to fill the work gaps they created by under investing and holding back infrastructure projects. They are giving our citizenship away like candy to fix their mistakes as many of our trades people have left. Now when the fuck are the dumb dumb NZers going to learn the ones who voted these cunts in again.

  6. now they can use their donor companies to clip the ticket. watch all the contracts blow out and remediation works to go on for decades aka Middlemore Hospital

  7. Despite times being tough and many people struggling to find work some being underemployed, yet Acts nasty Van what’s her face is putting in the boot reducing part time worker’s sick leave. All this when our health systems are in a fucken mess. We really need to eject these mongrel bastards from government ASAP.

  8. We got what we voted for. A clown show and a tax cut. Labour needed a renovation. Maybe something will come out of this circus, like a vision for the future of NZ and its young workforce.
