Privateers Reborn: Cyber Letters of Marque. (arrrrr)
The United States congress has been in a buzz over several months to revive a 200 year old “letter of marque” giving offensive empowerment to cyber operators to “hack back” cyber attacks to foreign governments it deems as a threat. The US last issued letters of marque during the war of 1812, giving privateers the right to wage war against British vessels. It also goes to shed light on what year these guys still think they’re in.
If the bill passes, reminisce on the romantic unaccountable free-for-all in the pirate golden age and contrast that with how the current US administration confuses present adversaries/allies by rolling out red carpets to some and mass sanctioning others.
But No worries… NZ is an ‘ally’… she’ll be right.. right?
