Cabinet makes early decision on Palestine recognition
Cabinet has made a preliminary decision on whether New Zealand will recognise Palestine, but the public will not learn of the outcome of this contentious deliberation until Foreign Minister Winston Peters declares it at the United Nations, in New York.
As public outcry over famine in Gaza grows louder, and as clergy members lock themselves to Finance Minister Nicola Willis’ office in protest, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has declined to confirm that Cabinet has made an early determination – subject to Peters’ meetings at the UN and a final decision being taken.
“We are in a process, and in fairness, you need to let us go through that process, and it’s important that we have a quality conversation to do that,” said Luxon, on Monday.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Remember the Indigenous Palestinians aren’t starving they’re being starved
Free Palestine
Luxflake is ACT. In all matters.
But our PM doesn’t have any BALLS
Seymour is nothing short of a self-serving traitor. He is so beholden to Atlas and their demands, the future of NZ doesn’t even come into it. He simply doesn’t care; he will skip the country once it is stripped bare. Re recognising Palestine, Labour needs to step up here too and now. Hard to imagine there is any thinking, compassionate human being in NZ who can’t see the brutality of what Israel is doing. Even now, when the Genocide announcement has been confirmed, Israel are bombing the hell out of Palestine. Way past time for the world to put a permanent end to Israeli military sites. It’s now irrelevant who ‘started’ this since when did it start – way before Hamas reacted? ‘Saying, ‘they started it’ is play-ground stuff. And Judith, stop allowing Rocket Lab to launch spy satellites in support of Israel. Are your heart and soul dead too?
Yeah, nathan is a fuckwit he’s also racist against our Māori peoples he should fuck off to Israel or America
As a National supporter I do not agree 100 percent with all their policies and even less of Act AND NZ First but like most on the Right we understand MMP is all about compromise. This blog constantly calls on Labour to join with Greens and TPM .Do you not think there would be a few fights over policy if they did join up .Based on current actions race would be front and centre as a point of difference.
Trevor there is compromise and morality and the two can co exist much of the time.
In the case of Gaza there should be no compromise from our “god fearing evangelical” PM. If his compromise is to not upset Seymour over a morally unjustifiable act of genocide by Israel in case the coalition breaks up then I suggest that Luxon has no morals and does not deserve to represent our country.
If his morals allow him to support genocide in exchange for the company car and free accommodations and air travel, I fail to understand how you can possibly support him.
If he had the moral fiber to tell his caucus and Seymour and Peters to front up and take the moral stance and the coalition collapsed you may get what you wish for, that being a National led government instead of the corrupt embarrassment we currently have.
Yeah there could be a few fights over policy but does National really want to stand on the wrong side of history again when dealing with apartheid.
Yes Trevor it’s about compromise not capitulations ,also no wonder Peters is happy he’s never been so in charge in his life
Yeah, nathan is a fuckwit he’s also racist against our Māori peoples he should fuck off to Israel or America and Judeath doesn’t have a heart or soul she is an arrrrrsehole Patrize
Zelda, please again do us all a favour and STOP PRETENDING TO BE A CHRISTIAN!! You don’t have one Christian bone in your body – you are a hollow, empty shell! As for Seymour being a Maori – what – a ‘Pretendy Maori’? Has he proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that he has even a smidgen of Maori in him? Could all be BS from his ancestors! I went to School & College with REAL MAORI and it was an invigorating, and informative time of my life. I still recall their names, faces and funny anecdotes. We all got along and enjoyed many fun and cultural times. Now please go away and give us a break, you are an embarrassment.
Second that. I’ve learned a lot here.
Apparently, some people haven’t learnt anything here which makes me think they don’t want to. They just come here to annoy others, because they can.
Maybe they are not tolerated anywhere else. So, that speaks well of us, but doesn’t mean we have to let them walk all over us.
Makes me realise, a lot of people aren’t very logical and that what I’d call common sense, isn’t all that common these days.
