With all the massive surveilance and intelligence resources available to the American state, both electronic and humint, which have only improved with time, I would say that the chances of the assassin of Charlie Kirk getting away are slim to none.
I could not find one account of a high profile political assassination, or attemped political assassination in the US, where the assassin was never identified and captured, or killed resisting capture.
