A new report has confirmed what New Zealanders know: National cuts healthcare, Labour restores it.
“This two-decade analysis is clear – National starves the health system and Labour brings it back into line with international standards,” Labour’s health spokesperson Ayesha Verrall said.
“History is repeating itself. Instead of properly funding healthcare, Christopher Luxon is handing out tax cuts to property speculators and tobacco companies.
“The report states the real-world impact of underfunding: staff shortages, fewer hospital beds, and higher GP costs – all of which are getting worse under National.
“Everyone deserves affordable care close to home, without the long waits. But under Christopher Luxon, it’s harder and more expensive to see a doctor or nurse. That means people stay sicker for longer, while hospitals buckle under the pressure.
“The Government should listen to this report. Now is the time to keep building on Labour’s progress – not tear it down.
“Labour will make it cheaper and easier to get care close to home – so you get help when you need it, and hospitals are there when it matters most,” Ayesha Verrall said.
Note:
Note that Figure 10 on page 54 shows New Zealand health expenditure was equivalent to the 16-country average as a percentage of GDP once adjusted for COVID-19. I.e. increase in funding was not achieved through COVID spending.
Too many people can’t even get onto the list to be seen by a hospital specialist despite being referred by their GPs. This means the true numbers are being hidden. Also, the government will not admit its policy to get people out of motels increased homelessness. Before they kicked them out of motels they should have had a plan on how to rehome them. And how can you say you achieved your target (to reduce numbers in motels) when doing so increased homelessness. My elderly mother waited in A and E @ Waikato hospital with pneumonia for 16 hours before they found her a bed on the wards, not good enough, Slimeon needs to stop talking with a fork tongue.

After hour medical services to see a GPs are ripping people of, my elderly mother-in-law paid 80$ waited 6 hours, got prescribed antibiotics and told she may have a virus. The antibiotics didn’t work, and she had to wait three weeks to see her regular GP who ordered blood tests.
