Amazon have a “not so secret” data center just built in AKL, likely 2 more penned in other areas of nz to meet the 3 minimum for an availability zone. Whether the 1000 jobs will be filled by locals is questionable due to lack of skilled credentialled workers. Looking at their hiring in the current job climate it’s likely they will pick already highly qualified workers coming from overseas to fill the gap and pay them lower.
