Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

The reason that Nick felt satisfied with herself at wasting so many millions of taxpayers’ money was because there was a better offer coming for Kiwi rich right-wing people-farmers to win, private-public ownership and funding, while they continue in their chosen animal husbandry, milking the NZ citizenry. Dairy is out, diary meetings with the ugliarchy is in.

I’ve been reading some Regency novels on the doings of the Brit class society of the early 1800s. When looking at the colourful language used then and at the word ‘Nick’ these came up which relate well to our own Nicola.
nick – To win at dice or hit the mark just in the nick of time.
(Before the people end up like this, or Nat/Act will end up like this.)
never a feather to fly with
To have no money. Also referred to be cleaned out, cucumberish, damned low water with me, find oneself on the rocks, find self at a stand, haven’t a sixpence to scratch with, pockets to let, punting on River Tick, rolled-up, and run quite off one’s legs.
(And you smarties will be villified by NZ Initiative etc as this.)
    nincompoop
A silly person; fool. Also referred to as bacon-brained, beef witted, bird witted, caper witted, chucklehead, fatwit, goose, jingle-brained, rattleplate, slow top, and scatter witted.

  2. …The IVL [International Visitor Levy] – paid at the border by a majority of non-residents arriving from overseas – almost tripled from NZ$35 to $100 following a review in 2024.
The resulting fund is intended to support the development of much needed tourism infrastructure in regions with high visitor-to-resident ratios, and to help support conservation initiatives.
In practice, a surprisingly high proportion of the estimated $230 million annual fund has recently been allocated to pay for more international tourism marketing.

Government talks with forked tongue? Here is a piece from The Conversation that might explain why politicians seem to have different features than ordinary humans – maybe connected with snakes? All the time that we were feeling happy that we didn’t have snakes in NZAO we may have been harbouring them under cover.

  3. Interesting.

…The team behind Tākaka’s co-housing complex is looking to expand its community-focused housing model across New Zealand, with one site chosen in Nelson.
It has also hinted at Christchurch being firmly in its sights.
Circle Living, a new “people-focused” sustainable property development company founded by the team behind Mohua Ventures, has begun work to develop a co-housing neighbourhood in Tāhunanui….

Are NZAO and Maori going to be helped by a different USA group than the usual Pension plans and the usual commercial project ones? I question why it should adopt a Maori name if not run by Maori.

I have been in a co-housing group and know that there must be a lead in the group with a practical vision to keep it going on course. And there are some USA people in Nelson who might be behind this with the best of intentions. But is it Kiwis doing it? There was Ranui in Auckland – I think that was Kiwis but we do have to get going ourselves. And possibly, after being part of a failed effort at the time that government was talking Special Housing Areas in 2013 (see below*) it is time in this period of government malfeasance to spend time in working up some good practical plans starting on Housing Trusts with affordable mortgages and personal input in the building, sort of apprentices building their own.

We could tap into some of that Tourist entry money and build Hobbit-fashion houses as tourist village features. That would fit in with the feeling that some of the top-lofty have that many of us are earthlings in a theme park. We need to break through the crust of calculated inertia as I note, on looking at the agencies and departments involved in housing, that there is a vast amount of bureaucratic employment being offered by regurgitating statistics and stating the bloody obvious in a deja vu fashion; the outcomes of dropping state housing and starter mortgages for young marrieds have sapped Kiwis get-up-and-go when we thought that housing was just something everybody took for granted as necessary. For pollies to serve us up to the world’s pick-nickers with spare money to be ‘a snapper-up of unconsidered trifles’ was a trifle unsettling (Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale – let’s keep Shakey on in 2025!), Now is the time for all good wo/men to push our own barrows.
