Wellington is suffering because the Government has cut thousands of public sector jobs and services.
“This Government has cut nearly 10,000 public service jobs, which has seen almost 200 Wellington businesses suffer and close up in the last year,” Labour’s Wellington spokesperson Ayesha Verrall said.
“Make no mistake, the empty shops and closed businesses across our capital are Christopher Luxon and Nicola Willis’ fault.
“Job opportunities are drying up across the country, more people are unemployed and seeking government support, or just leaving the country altogether. Many of those still in work will be feeling uncertain about the future and are more cautious with their money.
“Christopher Luxon is out of touch, with no idea about what most people and small businesses are really going through – and has no plan to turn things around.
“The National Government needs to stop making excuses and blaming others for the mess it has created.
“Meanwhile, the cost of living continues to rise, with food, electricity and housing costs all going up – adding pressure on families and small businesses.
“Christopher Luxon promised to make life better for New Zealanders, instead he is making it harder to get a job and support your family,” Ayesha Verrall said.
