Holy fuck we are so screwed economically.
For those not following, (and I don’t blame you because it’s tough to listen to these pricks while you are working your fingers to the bone), but for those not following, the Prime Minister of NZ iOS so desperate to start a housing bubble that he contacted the Reserve Bank and told them to lower interest rates.
We are so fucked.
The whole pretence of Capitalism is its supposed regulatory and independent nature.
For Luxon to breach the Independence of the Reserve Bank while dangling renewed contracts in their face is outright manipulation of the entire system.
Our under regulated neoliberal capitalism is already rigged for the rich, and yet here’s Luxon actively putting his hand on the scales to tip the whole bloody thing over.
This isn’t policy, it’s economic vandalism!
This Government is so fucking desperate they are selling citizenships to 215 multimillionaires, changing the overseas investment rules to allow those new multi-millionaire ‘citizens’ to buy residential property, they’ve set up a fake consultation into lowering the capital requirements for the banking industry and Luxon just breached the Independence of the Reserve Bank all to inflate a speculative property bubble???
THAT’S IT!
THAT’S THEIR FUCKING PLAN?
This is a scrambling desperation, this is not an economic policy!
They slashed the funding to infrastructure which ruptured the work pipeline and saw 18000 jobs go in construction, 30 000 over all and 70 000 leaving for Australia FFS!
That is a body blow to NZ.
We have always been 3 sparsely populated Islands. Free market dynamics require a lot of population density that we simply don’t have, we have always required the State to be the 40% foundation stone of the economy, that’s where our egalitarian bones are set.
Luxon is in a panic and pushing for things that could trigger a dangerous collapse of the economy.
There are so many red flags here it may as well be a Chinese Communist Party Banner Day.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

The ” I’m great with numbers” guy perpetuates a lie that was never going to fly…
Just look at those two ,Luxon and Willis…Luxon… used to sell men’s moisturiser, (a lie in itself), and was then entrusted to run a Government majority owned monopoly airline.. making an absolute hash of it and got caught selling parts to a criminal warring country to try and boost profits.
The desperation is there again for all to see with the sugar hit mentallity of selling out the N.Z. housing market again and turning it into a giant casino pyramid scheme…once again.
Thus supporting their realesate agent mates and landlords…once again.
Willis…clueless and ignorant…a bad combination… with a big sister knows best , won’t take advice attiude…a bad combination
Singularly… hopeless …they should both go away and become realestate agents seeing as they love property so much…
Together…a really really really bad combination
A great post Grant.
Luxon has now politicized the reserve bank and it is no longer neutral ala Trump.
He has entrenched property profitability over people and that is also a bad combination for a country.
Luxon is no PM, he is just a suit for corporates and Willis wearing a suit does not disguise her ineptitude as Finance minister, wasting over 600 million on the Ferries proves she is financially illiterate.
Don’t be so hard..on..CoC, they did a tuff job in tuff times, and this video proves it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWek6M4-0k4
Well if people didn’t know this was their plan tough! , they voted for greed not need
Now tell me if I have got this straight.
Brooke Van Velden criticised Trade Unionists saying of them, “they think money grows on trees’.
Luxon tells the Reserve Bank Governor to lower interest rates so people can borrow more money.
Is that not the same thing as growing money on trees for rich pricks?
‘Capitalism for the poor, socialism for the rich.’ ( Gore Vidal)
Correct on all counts Stevie and Van Velden is a vile evil corporate wench.
I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED by this decision. I support reserve bank rates staying as high as possible until the last few years on my 2.95% fixed mortgage run out and I start actually paying it off instead of stacking cash.
They got rid of the only bloke with the balls to be independent and now they have a group of sycophants who will do exactly as they are told.
The same thing happened at treasury, the Secretary of Treasury was forced out. Now Treasury is rewriting COVID history at the behest of Willis, Peter, Seymour.
Notice I haven’t included Luxon because he is just a mouth piece whose family must be totally ashamed of him.
Luxon and Willis must already be feeling that swift boot in the arse that’s coming from the electorate.
I know some are doing it tough but the fact that our local New World is busy shows plenty of customers are not watching their cents and the travel expo in Christchurch was so busy you had to queue to get in .The next day on the radio the organizers said bookings were 30 percent greater than last year.
Jesus Trevor. “Some people”. How many in the construction sector have lost their jobs again? You sound like Willis. She has to say things like that because she is an idiot. You are not.
Well Wheel your last few words are debatable?
We went to a flash cafe this morning. Good thing they don’t depend on us because we go about once a year. However, others do and usually the place is heaving. We went really early to beat the crowds. But the crowds didn’t come.
Next door at the flash fruit and vege shop which also has a nice deli and lots of select grocery items that I’ve never heard of, it was the same story. There’s lovely children’s playground, another cafe, a gift shop, lots of foreign wine, flash bread, special ice-cream and other sweet concoctions. Lovely shop really. Empty and obviously there were some bare shelves. Not worth them stocking vast amounts of bread that no-one will buy.
The middle class round here, is definitely missing in action. This is a pleasant rural area surrounded now, by vast tracts of apartments and new sub-divisions. Thousands of new homes. Where was everyone? We’re told unemployment in Auckland is higher than elsewhere so can only conclude no-one in the middle class is getting the tax cuts they thought they would.
next year the house will be repocessed because they cant pay the mortgage top up they took out to pay for the trip
You’re totally fucked in the head Trevor, you only see what you want to see and that is your problem. Read the headlines the closures, the high unemployment, the high expansion from public to private health. Your posts are tiresome. You immigrated to our once great country and this is the same reason as of tomorrow Im emigrating to the Gold Coast. Under the National CoC our country is divided and is under a corporate takeover.. Thankfully I won’t have to put up with the putrile nature of your posts ever again.
Enjoy your trip to the Golden Coast. As Mulldon once said your move will increase the brain level in each country
Oh Trevor so predictable not a single thought of your own, typical of the pomme that you are and clearly lacking any political intelligence. Just a typical right wing idiot, a little sheep following flawed ideology. And no, Muldoon did not use those words, you can’t even get that right, you coming into this country has dumbed New Zealand down. Me leaving makes my life much wealthier and healthier and I look forward to voting your corrupt lot out next year given they have been the worst government in history.
That comment has let you down badly Trevor. You might get a bit of flack here but if you don’t want that, don’t come
NaSC always has some well thought out things to say and I wish him/her well.
I’m sorry he/she feels they have to make the move to Aust.
Muldoon was a around decades ago, a very different situation to where we find ourselves now. You probably weren’t here at that stage so you know nothing about him. Muldoon, despite his faults and misogyny, had NZ’s best interests at heart.
He wasn’t trying to sell us to foreigners. He wasn’t trying to wreck everything our parents and grandparents had built. He planned big for the future. Some of his projects may have been OTT but at least he was planning and that work employed people for many years.
Stop spouting nonsense just to get your own back spitefully. That is the hall mark of your right wing mates, spite and malice. They are not working for us and we know it.
Thank you Joy. I am about half an hour flying out of Hamilton.
I do actually feel defeated despite looking forward to a better life, lifestyle, work balance and a respectful government. NZ is suffering, just look at the cafes and industry closing down, it is a sad state of affairs. Anyone promoting this government as changing things for the better is only lying to themselves. Every stat shows how our economy has gone backwards and a government that continues to break protocol with passing legislation under urgency.
Looking forward to the warmth on my back and a warm government.
Hope you find what you want NaSC. I especially hope the govt. there lives up to expectations for you. The Liberals got a well-deserved pounding in the last election but can Labor hold on into a second term?
The Northern Territory expo of recruiting kiwis was off the planet and they are prepared to pay Kiwis what they are worth unlike your government which promote a low wage economy, think about that for a few minutes.
They will find it a tough gig and will earn every dollar
Bahahahaha Trevor, how the fuck would you know, another one of your “feels”. Lived there too have you? What the expo showed was the value of a kiwi workforce unlike this CoC believing in a low wage economy and immigration which you clearly support. Sadly with the flawed ideology that immigration grows an economy, we got you.
“Bookings were 30 percent greater”
Yeah they are buying one way tickets out of Dodge.
What’s Luxons catch cry: a two tier economy. Something similar happening in the wider community. Some doing it tough but others still with discretionary income. Looking around the urban landscape where I live a good many former shops with For Lease signs in their window and hardly anyone in those with their doors still open. Certainly not unemployed construction workers spending up large. But you’re right, a good many still with dosh to spend.
Supermarkets? What what I can see a license for printing money. But the $10 block of butter must be putting a few off.
I feel for those folk who can’t absorb the rising cost of utilities. Rent. Heating. And for the poor folk who bought in the wrong place and now have insurance through the roof.
Be fair. Nothing else has worked for Mr Luxon. Trying to reinflate the badly punctured housing bubble is indeed an act of desperation. It is the last tool he has left in his kit.
The big question is whether any other would-be colonialist government has a plan. I will answer that one for you: “No, they don’t”.
Colonialism is effectively finished. It is still there, but it is no longer working. Like a stalled car, no longer responding to the accelerator. Looking to the property market for a solution is like saying “Hey, let’s see if we can drive it on the starter motor”.
Oh sh*t, we’re stuffed!
Excellent article and comments today. Please read Dame Anne Salmond’s article – https://newsroom.co.nz/2025/08/23/anne-salmond-who-is-this-government-working-for/ The photo also says it all – such a smug, smirking bunch of ‘no hopers’! How can so many dummies out there not see them for what they are – an over-confident “nothingness”, unable to find anything pertinent to get our lovely country out of the appalling mess they have created. Is anything safe now from their meddling? Way past time to pull the rug out.
Wish they could all be sacked now, utterly useless and who on earth thinks they are doing a good job? Honestly. Can there be more than a few hundred left?
Luxon is too much of an egomaniac to admit he’s finished and resign like a man. He’ll have to be smashed at the next election, enough to make him go away permanently.
Does he want such an ignominious exit? He must do.
Narcissism knows no bounds.
Luxon is just following Trump’s lead in basically forcing lower interest rates from the Reserve Bank which they are certain will boost the economy by stimulating borrowing. Of course all that hot new money will be extremely inflationary, which is why we have an independent Reserve bank in the first place as opposed to a totalitarian control over all aspects of the economy. Nobody is more impacted by high-inflation than the poor. Luxon knows that and he doesn’t care since they won’t vote for him anyway.
The property market is now 20x GDP – Luxon’s actions have gone beyond the usual raging incompetence and suppurating corruption into manifest economic treason. Great for ANZ – no good for NZ at all.
Yes and the once great farming industry is now a paltry 12% where once it was 60% and the backbone of the economy .Fonterra is doing all it can to shrink it further .
It may be that the punters are pretty wary of the property market now. Even with lower interest rates they may not be enticed back.
A couple of years ago a property speculator guy I know through work told me he and his mahjong playing mates were predicting Adelaide for the next bubble and heading there.

I said before the election if you are brown, female, gay ,on mimimum pay you will be screwed over by national .So far I have been proven right every day .Not bad for an uneducated bottom feeding boomer getting paid fuck all while the skin head and his gang fuck the whole country .Clearly Fonterra and Fletcher have not heard the growth growth growth banshee cry from Luxon and no boats Willis as they are going hard to down size and cash in as much as they can before everything is worthless .
GREAT VOTING IDIOTS .
Better have a lie down with a cup of tea – there will be so many of these moments with this gummint that good folks will wear themselves out. I remember the great song and dance in the fevered brain of the guy in the Dennis Potter hospital story, he had psoriasis?. Don’t make yourselves sick from worry.
