Merciless blitz on starving Gaza — growing numbers

Victims 20–21 August 2025:

70 more killed and 356 wounded

Since dawn, Israeli air strikes, missile–launches and gunfire on homes, as well as medical and other facilities, have resulted in 70 dead and 356 wounded. The total number now killed in Gaza, since 7 October 2023, has risen to at least 62,192 and the total wounded is at least 157,114. The daily average number of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 90 and, that of those injured, is more than 229. A UN report states that, as of 14 January 2025, around 70% of those killed in Gaza were women and children.

Key Highlights

• The Israeli government’s advancement of the E1 settlement plan in eastern Jerusalem governorate would effectively separate the northern and central West Bank from the south, further threaten the territorial contiguity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and heighten the risk of forced displacement of about 18 Palestinian Bedouin communities.

• Attacks, harassment and intimidation by Israeli settlers against Palestinians continue unabated. Between 12 and 18 August, OCHA documented 29 Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians that resulted in casualties, property damage, or both.

• On 13 August, an Israeli settler shot and killed a Palestinian man during a settler attack near Duma south of Nablus. Since the beginning of this year, Israeli settlers have killed five Palestinians in attacks perpetrated by settlers, compared to three in 2024.

• OCHA has documented more than 1,000 attacks by Israeli settlers in 230 communities across the West Bank since the beginning of 2025, which resulted in the killing of 11 Palestinians and the injury of roughly 700 others by Israeli settlers or forces as well as property damage.

• Between 12 and 18 August, two Palestinians were killed in the West Bank, one by Israeli forces and one by an Israeli settler. During the same period, at least 18 Palestinians, including two children, were injured, half by Israeli forces and half by Israeli settlers.

Israeli Army attacks – refugee camp: Jenin – Israeli Occupation forces, firing live ammunition, continued their storming of the city and its refugee camp.

Israeli Army attacks – home invasions – 2 taken prisoner: Tulkarem – the Israeli Army, firing live ammunition, continue to storm the city and the Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps, invading and occupying homes. Two people were taken prisoner.

Israeli Army attacks – population–control – 1 wounded: Tulkarem – 14:30, Israeli forces opened fire, from the Annexation Wall, near the town of Quffin, towards people making their way to work across the Green Line. One person, Orwa Muhammad Salim Hammad, was wounded.

Home invasions and robbery: Jerusalem – 11:00, the Israeli Army seized four vehicles, including a motorcycle, and sums of money exceeding $US100,000 from the homes of ten Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli Army – settlement growth and land–grabs: Jerusalem – the Israeli Occupation gave approval for a construction plan in the E1 area, east of Jerusalem, which includes 3,401 settlement housing units, and the establishment of a new settlement to be named Ashahal, starting with the building of 342 settlement housing units and public buildings.

Israeli Army – news reporter taken prisoner: Bethlehem – 17:00, Israeli forces took prisoner a news reporter, journalist Moaz Abdul Majeed Atta Amarneh, a resident of Dheisheh refugee camp, along Route 60 between Jerusalem and Hebron.
